Hi, everyone.
I'm Jim Myers.
Today's session features Tuesday Again, a four piece jazz fusion band from Orlando led by vibraphonist Tuesday Villane, Tuesday Again pulls influences from Frank Zappa, Rush and Radiohead, among others, to create a unique and engaging blend of instrumental virtuosity.
Before the session, we had a chance to talk to Tuesday, bassist Elijah Lane, keyboardist Miguel Guzman and drummer Marc Steger about the origin of the band, some of their memorable shows, their upcoming plans and more.
[MUSIC] [MUSIC ENDS] >>So I've been to Melrose a number of times for the different classes and stuff here, and I've always been amazed by the different facilities that are available here and how accessible they are to so many different people.
So I'm really excited that we get to collaborate with Melrose and kind of create something that showcase who we are as musicians, as well as the facilities here, because it's just incredible that this is 5 minutes away from Lake Eola.
It's the heart of downtown, and so many people don't know about it yet.
>>I was telling Mike, our engineer, that, like, we didn't have this when we were kids.
I probably would have like lived in the library.
If we had this when we were younger.
[MUSIC] [MUSIC ENDS] >>I started playing music with Tuesday back in 2015, we were doing WGI with RPT percussion.
It was my first foray into that like marching band world outside of the high school setting and Tuesday and I grew very, very close during that first season and we never got the chance to march together.
Wait, no, we did.
We marched together for magnets.
>>Yeah.
>>Then you left me.
We marched together again in 16.
And then by that time, we were both going into college and we decided to sort of put together a new project.
Our original project, the first Tuesday Again was actually like ukulele, math rock, instrumental fusion.
And it was really fun.
It was a great group and we had some like local level underground success.
But then, you know, stuff happens and that kind of dissolved.
And then few years later, Tuesday, it was like, we're going to take another shot at this with a more jazz focused and concrete vision instead of, well, kind of silly ukulele shredding, a little more professional vibes.
So yeah, we just got together doing music and had to keep doing music.
Pretty much it.
[MUSIC] [MUSIC ENDS] >>Frank Zappa and Radiohead can all kind of big influences for the sound of this group, kind of just my life in general.
I like more like rock indie music more than the classical world, but being a classically trained musician, there's influence through like classical solo performance studies that really shine through, and we kind of mesh those together to get the sound of this group.
>>I'm into a lot of different kinds of music, and I have been my whole life.
I've went through phases with all sorts of genres and I try to bring those influences to the table here at Tuesday Again.
I grew up as like a rock and metal sort of kid, and then when I got into band, I really took interest in like the marching arts and horns and things like that.
[MUSIC] [MUSIC ENDS] >>Back in June we released our first EP's was a five track EP, just a self-titled self-produced item.
And so we want to aim to have our first full length album released in summer of 2023.
>>Thanks for joining us for this episode of Melrose In the Mix featuring Tuesday Again.
We'll see you again soon with another live recording session here in the Melrose Center at the Orlando Public Library.
