It's beautiful and they brew a mean beer.
And in August it all comes together at the Tumwater Artesian Brewfest.
Part tasting party, part history tour, and definitely Thurston County's biggest backyard bash.
I'm here with Marisa of the City of Tumwater Parks and Recreation Department, and today we're learning all about Brewfest.
Can you tell me about the organization and the event?
Yeah, absolutely.
So it is the Tumwater Artesian Brewfe.. and we like to say it's more than just a brewfest.
It is Thurston County's biggest backyard party.
But also it is rooted in our brewing history.
In 1895, for a little history.
Leopold Schmidt, started a brewery here, and this spot was perfect for brewing because of the artesian springs.
So the artesian water was crystal clear and perfect for beer.
And now we honor that history and the craft of brewing in our area with over 45 local Pacific Northwest brewers, food trucks, music, games, you name it.
Can't wait to check it out.
If you can't wait until August, there are other options.
Beer tasting can be all year if you know where to look.
A great place to start the craft district right here in Tumwater.
Let's go talk to Mount Olympus Brewing.
Every year, Mount Olympus is one of the stars of Brewfest.
I'm here with Orlando, who is going to tell us what makes this beer so special.
So there's four ingredients in beer.
Basic ingredients are water, malt, yeast and hops.
The main difference in beer is yeast.
And then the color variations are our malts.
And your beer not only tastes good, it does good.
Can you tell me a little bit about your work in the community?
Sure, yeah.
We do several beer p.. with different charities or for nonprofits.
Page Turner is our American wheat ale.
It's a new brew that we did and it supports the South Sound Reading Foundation.
And they use a portion of the proceeds to buy books and distribute them into the schools in the area.
That's wonderful.
Can I give it a taste?
Sure.
Please do.
Thank you very much.
That is delicious.
Cheers.
Cheers.
I'm Angela.
Thanks for exploring.
We'll see you.
