Princeton will carry New Jersey dreams into next stage of college basketball competition
After Princeton University's men's basketball team, a 15th seed, beat 7th-seed Missouri in the second round of the NCAA men's basketball tournament at the weekend, it brought flashbacks of Saint Peter’s University Cinderella run last year that ended at the Elite Eight stage. Princeton's next game is against Creighton University in the Sweet 16, which will air in primetime on Friday.

Learn Moreabout PBS online sponsorshipwell New Jersey is quickly becoming known as the Cinderella state after two teams put up huge performances in the NCAA tournament last week first 15 seed Princeton University beat out seventh seed Missouri in the second round of the tournament this weekend giving us flashbacks to last year's St Peter's university Cinderella run that ended that team in the elite eight Princeton now has to put up a strong fight against Nebraska's Creighton University in the sweet 16 airing in prime time this Friday we'll be rooting for another Princeton upset but no upset was quite as shocking as the 16th seeded fairly Dickinson University taking down number one Purdue Friday night that win earned fdu a matchup against the number nine Florida Atlantic last night Ted Goldberg was at the game in Ohio that ended in defeat for fdu but not without a battle all lies in New Jersey are now on Princeton as fairly Dickinson basketball will not be joining them in the sweet 16. fdu ends its season in the round of 32 after becoming The Darlings of this year's NCAA tournament hundreds of fans from New Jersey traveled hundreds of miles to Columbus Ohio to watch the knights end their season after one of the most incredible upsets in the history of this tournament I couldn't be more proud of this team um we overcame a lot of things um you know everybody improved this year we went toe-to-toe the last few days with two great teams and didn't back down didn't go away we're not just happy to be here this is a pretty special thing to be in like I want to get back here I want these pledge I if I feel that way which the players do too it's like it'd be a little more fire for us going forward few expected fdu to survive top seeded Purdue so travel Arrangements were a little last minute we're running on a few beers and a few copies you know like you know gotta make it happen we didn't sleep for about 36 hours straight but we did like 12 o'clock last night from the bar and uh yeah we're running on straight like just Vibes and fumes we blew out right after we won against Purdue we were up all night we bought the tickets at midnight and we flew it at 3am it was a seven seven and a half eight hour drive uh we made two stops for like 10 minutes each watch parties back home in Jersey gave people a front row seat if they couldn't make it to Ohio those who did were joined by thousands of neutral college basketball fans supporting the knights even the pep band for the University of Dayton wore fdu shirts and played the knights fight song while early optimism gave way to booze and frustration there was still a ton of Pride from players family I'm very proud of him I've seen him everywhere and you know I used to watch him when he's in high school and I didn't know that he poured his heart out to these games it was good he had a good game the wrestling called No fouls really to the students and alumni who came to Columbus we've made history and we proved that you know um you know even with the odds against you you're still able to achieve a lot through belief he's one of the best coaches I've ever seen calm quiet but forceful and the kids really have taken to him they're in the best condition of any team I've ever seen at Fairleigh Dickinson including my own it's really great to see after you Pride be back and seeing that now we're on the map um it's really cool to see now people now recognize fdu as a big school we've always talked about how we feel like we're a well-kept secret but I think the reality is we're not a secret anymore and the story that our players are telling on the court is the very same story that we tell every day in our classrooms Princeton will continue the Jersey dream solo the 15-seeded Tigers turned a pair of major upsets of their own into their first trip to the Sweet 16 since 1967. it means a ton to our program to have the spotlight to see what Princeton basketball is all about it's selfless and a lot of humility in this program there's a lot of you know leave the bet the jersey in a better place from where you found it and I'm excited that our players are really displaying not only how good they can play on the court but the kind of people that they are off the court as well if fdu had won the this game they'd be playing at Madison Square Garden next weekend not too far from fdu's campus that would have been something instead college basketball fans across New Jersey will watch Princeton play in the sweet 16 on Friday they'll be taking on Creighton in Louisville Kentucky in Columbus Ohio I'm Ted Goldberg NJ Spotlight News [Music÷}
