Learn Moreabout PBS online sponsorship(gentle upbeat music) - My name is Tyesha Wilder.
I am from Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
I have been singing since I was about four years old.
I started in the church.
♪ Why do my flaws ♪ And then I branched off into a few community choirs that were attached to my church.
I started taking voice lessons around 12 or 13 through the conservatory.
♪ All I ever wanted was to be enough for you ♪ Knowing music, not only in a soulful and a feelful way of just listening to it, but actually knowing the knowledge of music helped me a lot with the transition in becoming my own artist because I was able to take everything that I learned from my voice teachers and training and doing all these competitions and going to college and all these things.
I did learn how to shift the two and make the two intertwine.
But I feel like my training is the ground of my voice, so I never want to lose that.
But I also never want to let my training outshine my soul and how I feel and my emotions.
So intertwining those both at the beginning was difficult, but now, I got the hang of it, so.
♪ I'm calling you out, baby ♪ ♪ But I'm gonna bounce, baby ♪ And I always had a very big culture in music, but finding my own sound, I would say that I did have to teach myself how to sing R&B because I was classically trained.
No matter where my lyrics go, I always want people to know that this gift is not from me, it's from God, and that I always want to make sure that I am singing to his glory, no matter what type of song that I am singing.
♪ 'Cause I want to feel, feel, feel your love ♪ So I just kind of incorporated R&B with my classical training.
So that's kind of how I found the sound of Ty Wilder, R&B, with a hint of everything, actually.
♪ Today, and I need you with me everyday ♪ My passion lies in what I'm doing right now.
That's just creating my own music and expressing how I feel and letting people know what my thoughts are and my vulnerability are, sharing my story.
I do see myself still singing classical music.
I really don't have, like, a bubble that I want to be in.
♪ Feel, feel your love ♪ Me expressing myself through my music and my lyrics is what I've always wanted to do.
This journey has just been beautiful and full of joy and full of life.
I'm really thankful to be here and be where I am and can't wait to see where I go.
