A group claims the university isn't following the state's new anti-DEI law.
During the 2025 legislative session, lawmakers passed House Bill 4, which bans all diversity, equity and inclusion programs and offices at the state's public universities. The Goldwater Institute says UK's board of trustees did not follow through with part of the law requiring the adoption of a policy prohibiting discrimination on the basis of a person's political or social viewpoint.

Lawmakers passed House Bill four, which bans all diversity, equity and inclusion programs in offices at the state's public universities.
Now, the Goldwater Institute says UC's board of trustees did not follow through with part of the law requiring the adoption of a policy prohibiting discrimination on the basis of a person's political or social viewpoint.
Instead, they say, the university authorized U-K President Eli Capelouto to enact such policies.
The Libertarian Institute is calling on Kentucky Attorney General Russell Coleman to enforce the law.
Senate Majority Whip mike Wilson issued this statement.
Quote, The Attorney General has the authority to investigate any claims of noncompliance and to bring an action to enforce the law where violations are found.
The legislature has spoken and is the university's responsibility to protect the First Amendment rights of students, faculty, and staff by abiding by the law.
UK spokesperson Jay Blanton says the university believes it is complying with the law to ensure that there is no confusion or ongoing questions or concerns.
We have been planning for some time to bring a recommendation to the board at our September meeting for them to endorse a policy of institutional neutrality.
Reviewing our policies and practices in compliance with the law is an ongoing responsibility we are committed to upholding and quote.
