Learn Moreabout PBS online sponsorship- Well did students in your class fall through the cracks, did any of these commuters stop going to school?
Did everyone get a laptop, did that part at least work out?
- It did I think.
I mean there were some, I think like everybody, you know just adjusting to this was challenging and students who need that face to face they were more likely to perhaps take some time off.
But my students finished their classes.
My, I've, the way I've run it is my class I've tried to run as similar to face to face as possible.
And you know other faculty are doing much more asynchronous where they record themselves.
That is nightmarish to me.
Like watching a video of me teaching research methods, why would they, no one wants to watch that.
And I think, but I think it's been really good for the students because it's this place of normalcy.
Like yes black, or sorry Zoom is odd.
But by running it in that way it becomes an anchor in their lives that this is so, this is the one place that it's a lot like it used to be.
And, you know I think some faculty understandably have said oh let's get loose on everything and I respect those choices.
But I've tried to provide a lot of structure.
Yes, some flexibility but not total flexibility.
Because it's nice to have something that's similar to what was before the pandemic.
And I do my classes that way.
Now yes, I'm doing two exams instead of a big final.
I've made those kind of changes.
But I, I hold my sessions live, face to face air quotes as much as I can.
Almost every time.
I do one asynchronous a month just to mix it up for them.
But by and large I'm running my class like it's a physical class.
