You're going to be late for work.
Larry> (Yawning) Okay.
(brewing coffee pot) Mother> Karen it's eight o'clock.
Karen> I'm coming.
Mother> And Paul don't forget to take out the trash.
Larry> Children, if I'm going to take you to school, you'll have to hurry.
It's time for me to go to work.
(chimes of a clock) (Car door squeaking) (door slamming) (trash can banging) Larry> Hurry up now we're waiting.
Karen> I'm coming Daddy.
(car engine starting) (car engine running) (house door shutting) (car door opening and closing) (car engine revving) (birds chirping) ♪ ♪ Up in the morning got to go to work ♪ ♪ Got to earn my pay ♪ ♪ There are things we need and mouths to feed ♪ ♪ and work to be done every day ♪ ♪ Hop in the car or climb on the bus ♪ ♪ Got to go and do what we do ♪ ♪ Here, near and far, there are people needing us ♪ ♪ And the people needing you and me, are me and you ♪ ♪ We all have our job to do ♪ ♪ We all have our part to play ♪ ♪ We all have to help this world go round ♪ ♪ and come around a brand new day ♪ ♪ ♪ ♪ Milkman> Hi, I'm a milkman.
I deliver milk and other dairy products to your homes.
♪ The milk comes from a dairy farm and is processed in a plant by the people who work there.
I provide my customers with a special service by bringing their dairy products to them.
(machines humming) (car engine noises) (door sliding open) Mailman> Hi, I work for the post office.
I deliver people's mail to them.
If I do not deliver it for them, they would have to come for it.
(mail box opening and closing) That would be trouble for them, and for the people who work at the post office.
People like to keep in touch, by writing letters to each other.
Companies send bills in the mail.
I deliver this mail to the person it was sent to.
I provide a service that people need.
(clicking of keys) (metal trash cans banging) Trash man> Providing a service people need.
That's my job.
Somebody has to pick up trash around people's houses.
If there's a lot of trash around people's houses, people can get sick, you know, from the dirt and germs in it.
Besides, a lot of trash around people's houses doesn't look very nice.
(trash cans banging) (trash compactor revving) (large tractor driving) Road worker> The city, county, or state that you live in provide services for their people.
We're building a new road.
The money needed to build a road came from tax money.
This road will help many people get to work faster.
The more people that live in an area, the more roads they'll need.
We build roads for everyone to use.
(machine humming) (military cadence) Instructor> Left right, left right... Servicewoman> I'm in the Army.
When your family pays taxes, some of that money goes for a special service... protection.
People in the Army, Navy, Air Force and Coast Guard protect our country, just like firemen and policemen protect you and your home.
♪ ♪ Some of us will tend to the sick ♪ ♪ Some of us will put out the fires ♪ ♪ Some of us will do the things for me and you ♪ ♪ The things that everyone requires ♪ ♪ Some of us will do the kinds of things ♪ ♪ that all of us need to get through ♪ ♪ Some of us work doing things for you and me ♪ ♪ and the ones to do the doing are me and you ♪ ♪ We all have our jobs to do ♪ ♪ we all have a part to play ♪ ♪ We all have to help this world go round ♪ ♪ and come around a brand new day ♪ ♪ Factory Worker> My work is not to provide a service, but to make a product.
My product may not be needed by everyone, but most people sure do like it.
I didn't make this boat all by myself.
There are many other people who also work here.
Each one does a different job.
We start with a mold.
Some workers make the body of the boat.
Other people put different parts on it.
When everyone finishes their work, the boat is ready to be sold.
(studio crew chatting) TV Show Host> Okay, fine.
TV Show Host> I make a product just like the factory worker.
But you can't hold my product in your hand.
I make television programs.
I'm seen on the program, but just like in the factory, many people work here.
You don't see them, but each person does a different job.
It takes everyone working together to make a television program.
(light talking) Salesman> I don't make a product myself.
I do sell products that are made by other people.
Our cars are made in factories a long way from here.
(machines whirring) (equipment humming) Somebody has to get these cars to the people who need them.
That's what I do.
I sell cars to people who need and want them.
♪ ♪ Some of us work hard making things ♪ ♪ things we all want or need ♪ ♪ Some of us see the things others make ♪ ♪ will be what they are meant to be ♪ ♪ We all have our job to do ♪ ♪ we all have our part to play ♪ ♪ We all have to help this world go around ♪ ♪ and come around a brand new day ♪ ♪ ♪ ♪ ♪ Tour guide> I don't get paid for the work I'm doing now.
During the week I work and I get paid for it.
But on the weekends, I like to give my time doing something I really want to do.
I'm a tour guide.
I show visitors around this historic home and tell them about the furniture and the people who once lived here.
I'm glad to give my time to show people this beautiful home.
♪ ♪ Some of us like to help others out ♪ ♪ doing things that need to be done ♪ ♪ We can help someone else ♪ ♪ while we enjoy ourselves ♪ ♪ Helping cause we want to and it's fun ♪ ♪ We all have our job to do ♪ ♪ we all have our part to play ♪ ♪ We all have to help this world go round ♪ ♪ and come around a brand new day ♪ ♪ ♪ ♪ ♪ (typewriter keys clicking) Office worker> There are many different types of work people do.
Everyone does what they can do best.
Some jobs are full time, others are part time.
Some jobs are done during the day, while others have to be done at night.
Some jobs provide services while others provide products.
All kinds of jobs are important because they provide workers with a way to earn the money that they need to live by.
♪ Some of us work hard making things ♪ ♪ Things we all want or need ♪ ♪ Some of us see the things others make ♪ ♪ will be what they are meant to be ♪ ♪ We all have our job to do ♪ ♪ We all have our part to play ♪ ♪ We all have to help this world go round ♪ ♪ and come around a brand new day ♪ ♪ ♪
