She explains how you don't need a car because you can take the subway or walk where you need to go. She also talks about how people from all over the country move to New York and bring their culture with them.

I live in a large city.
My home is New York.
Let me show you where I live.
That's my little sister, Rachel.
There's our mom and dad.
They take us to the playground a lot.
Our house doesn't have a yard to play in, so we play here and in other parks.
There are many parks in the city.
We live in an apartment on the eighth floor.
I like living here.
Many different families live in this building.
They each have their own home, but they are all under the same roof.
♪ ♪ ♪ ♪ ♪ A large city like New York, has lots of people living in a small area.
That's why they have lots of buses, subways, and tall buildings.
♪ Most people live in buildings like us, but also ones that are even taller.
♪ ♪ You can grow your flowers in the window box ♪ ♪ You can park your car ♪ ♪ if you can find a spot ♪ ♪ You can miss every crack in the sidewalk, see ♪ ♪ but everybody needs a place to be by themselves ♪ ♪ Sometimes ♪ ♪ everybody needs a place to be ♪ ♪ You can play on the fire escape on warm summer nights ♪ ♪ You can let the street light be your light house light ♪ ♪ You can live in a building high as you can see ♪ ♪ but everybody needs a place to be by themselves ♪ ♪ Sometimes ♪ ♪ everybody needs a place to be ♪ ♪ Playing on ♪ ♪ the street with all of your friends ♪ ♪ Dancing in a manmade waterfall ♪ ♪ Skating on the sidewalk ♪ ♪ Now and then, waiting for your ♪ ♪ Mama's call to come in, waiting for your ♪ ♪ Mama's call ♪ ♪ You can go to the corner grocery store ♪ ♪ You can sit on the front steps close to the door ♪ ♪ You can watch all the people on the street you see ♪ ♪ But everybody needs a place to be by themselves ♪ ♪ Sometimes, everybody needs a place to be ♪ Sara> Because there are so many people living in a small amount of space, we have to use every piece of land available.
Tall buildings can be built on the same amount of space, as a smaller one.
(subway train sounds) Many people in New York don't have cars.
They don't really need them.
The streets are crowded and it sometimes quicker to walk than take a car.
Buses, taxicabs, and the subways go everywhere.
♪ ♪ (car horns honking) ♪ There are many places to shop in a large city.
Some stores are really big.
You'd better stay with your parents in those stores, or else you could get lost.
♪ The street vendors, always have something good to sale.
♪ There's always someone going someplace ♪ ♪ There's always someplace else to be ♪ ♪ It's always something new to do ♪ ♪ something new to see ♪ ♪ and the sidewalks are all full of people ♪ ♪ People with some place to go ♪ ♪ Some of them might be strangers ♪ ♪ Some of them someone you know ♪ ♪ ♪ There's always someone going someplace ♪ ♪ There's always someplace else to be ♪ ♪ There's always something new to do ♪ ♪ something new to see ♪ ♪ And the buses, they always seem so crowded ♪ ♪ Where did those people come from ♪ ♪ From buildings so high they tickle the sky ♪ ♪ can't you hear those big bus wheels hum ♪ ♪ There's always someone going someplace ♪ ♪ There's always someplace else to be ♪ ♪ There's always something new to do ♪ ♪ something new to see ♪ ♪ and the taxis are all in a hurry ♪ ♪ The cabbies' honking his horn ♪ ♪ Maybe he's heading to the airport ♪ ♪ Maybe a baby's being born ♪ ♪ There's always someone going someplace ♪ ♪ It's always someplace else to be ♪ ♪ There's always something new to do ♪ ♪ something new to see ♪ Sara> Many people from other countries come to live in America.
When they do, many families move to a large city.
Sometimes they miss their homeland and want to live near other people from their same country.
When lots of people from the same country live close together, their neighborhood begins to look and feel like the country that they came from.
♪ (gong crashing) (wind blowing) Another place that you can see flags and people from many countries, is at the United Nations, Countries from all over the world and ambassadors here to represent their country.
At the United Nations, these ambassadors work together so that people from all over the world can live and work together in peace.
One thing that's nice about living in a large city is that there's a lot of things to do.
There are lots of museums in New York City.
They each have different things in them.
It takes hours just to see everything in a museum, and there are over 15 in the city.
♪ Since we have so many people, we have to have large churches for them.
There are some smaller churches, but they are also very, very big ones.
If you like baseball, we have two different teams that you can go see.
(crowd cheering) In fact, you can go anywhere and see anything you want to see.
In my town, even at night, New York City still stays awake.
(car horns honking) (car engine sounds) (car horns honking) Everyone recognizes the Statue of Liberty.
It was given to the United States, as a sign of friendship many years ago.
It has always been a sign of freedom for people who are coming to the United States to live.
(sounds of water splashing) (tugboat honking) New York is on an island and it is surrounded by water.
To get to New York City, you have to go over a bridge, or through a tunnel.
(seagull calling) Ships come to the New York Harbor from all over the world.
They bring goods made in other countries here to sale.
(horn honking) Then they take goods made here back to their countries.
Sometimes we go to the beach on a hot summer day, but I like to go to Central Park just about as well.
There's so much to do here.
Everyone goes to the park, not just us kids.
♪ ♪ ♪ Going to the park on a Saturday morning ♪ ♪ Running in the morning air ♪ ♪ Going to play on the Wonderland statues ♪ ♪ all my friends will be there ♪ ♪ Hey, all my friends will be there ♪ ♪ Maybe we can go for a ride on boat ♪ ♪ Maybe we could stay on the land ♪ ♪ Maybe we'll play a game of catch ♪ ♪Just me and all of my friends ♪ ♪ Hey, just me and all of my friends ♪ ♪ Going to the zoo in the afternoon ♪ ♪ Watching the monkeys and the bear ♪ ♪ Maybe I can get some cotton candy ♪ ♪ And all my friends will be there ♪ ♪ Hey, all my friends will be there ♪ ♪ Well, maybe we can ride on a horse drawn carriage ♪ ♪ feeling the sun and the wind ♪ ♪ Or maybe we play a game of tag just me and all of my friends ♪ ♪ Hey, me and all of my friends ♪ Sara> I like living in a large city.
It's a lot different from living in a small town or in the country, but you see, New York is special to me because it's my home.
