A faculty group that made decisions on academic policies.
President Eli CAPELOUTO wants the Senate to have an advisory role only.
As a result, some of the universities senators say they have lost confidence in his ability to lead.
Here is more on where that stands from Kentucky additions.
Clayton Dalton.
Right, so everything the.
Alternative, the University of Kentucky Senate met yesterday to hold a vote of no confidence against a sitting president, Eli CAPELOUTO.
One senator who cast a vote of no confidence says CAPELOUTO spread misinformation throughout this process.
The president sort of created three groups siloed the students, the staff.
They've faculty spoke to individual groups, told them different things to each group and as a result, pitted as basically the students against the faculty and sort of demoralized the whole community and and and created this this really what is the word this a climate of distrust in the university.
CAPELOUTO And the board of trustees say changing the role of the university Senate will put student and staff voices on an equal playing field with faculty.
One student who spoke at the meeting says he agrees and that he takes issue with the timing of the Senate's no confidence vote.
I have heard repeatedly today that this body wants to hear student voices more and more.
You are considering a vote of no confidence in the president of our university.
Three days after the fact, the vast majority of students have gone home.
They returned to places all across this country and are not here to essentially voice themselves apart from saying.
But some senators say casting a vote of no confidence is the wrong move and that some faculty members support the proposed changes.
This does move faculty decisionmaking away from the Senate.
I agree.
But it means that to the college level, where the college level faculty members can make decisions.
And so, yes, it is a different matter than what we currently have.
Some view that is good, and there is a large body of faculty that continue to view that it's good.
The vote of no confidence prevailed.
58 senators cast a vote of no confidence.
24 opposed the measure and 11 abstained.
For Kentucky Edition, I'm Clayton Dalton.
Thank you, Clayton.
The next step in the process.
The U.K. board of trustees will decide whether to take action against President CAPELOUTO based on this in its action.
