(upbeat music) - University of Utah College of Fine Arts is offering four new introductory courses around different forms of creative arts therapy.
And here with more details about the courses, is Becky Zarate.
Hi, Becky, welcome.
This is very exciting new program, because, I mean, people have heard about using art therapy, but you've actually got courses designed, talk about those courses.
- Yeah, we are gonna be offering our first suite of courses for art therapy, drama therapy, dance movement therapy, and music therapy.
So this is, to our knowledge, this is the first time in the University of Utah's history that we're able to offer all four together as a suite.
And they're principles and practices of introductory courses for each of those professions and modalities.
But the way we've designed it is that we wanted to provide as much opportunity for access to these courses for anyone in Utah who's interested.
So, we've specifically designed them to be hybrid, and mainly online, with three Saturday residencies in-person, and everybody's gonna be beginning together.
So the music therapy students get to see the drama therapy students, the art therapy students, dance movement.
They get to see our team co-lead and do warmups, experiential learning-based warmups, and then they go off into their respective units.
Music therapy is gonna be coming out of the School of Music, art therapy is gonna be coming out of our Department of Art and Art History, our drama therapy is gonna be coming out of our Department of Theater, and music therapy is gonna be coming out of School of Music, and dance is gonna be coming out of School of Dance, - I think, I mean, it's a fabulous idea.
It's really exciting that you're doing this here.
I know you worked on them in the east, and now you're bringing them in here.
So thank you so much for being here and telling us about it, thank you.
- [Becky] Thank you.
It's real thrilling.
- Great.
And if you'd like to know more about those four courses in creative arts therapy, spring semester, January 6th through April 12th, they're hybrid and in-person so the community can take advantage, go to artsandhealth.utah.edu, artsandhealth.utah.edu.
I'm Mary Dickson.
