(upbeat music) - Utah Arts Alliance's, Dreamscapes is an immersive art experience designed to inspire creativity.
And here to tell us more about the art project, executive director Derek Dyer.
Hi, Derek, thanks for being here.
- Thanks for having me.
- Busy as always.
And you've got this, well, you can explain what Dreamscapes is, the surreal labyrinth that you can walk through.
- Yeah, it's like living in a dream, you know?
So basically it's an immersive art experience, and so you're immersed in the art, so the walls, the floors, the sight, the smells, the sounds, all of it is part of this experience that we create.
And it's like being in a dream-like environment.
And so you go to these really surreal lands and there's a narrative that you kind of follow.
And it's just amazing.
There's nothing quite like it in Utah.
- It sounds like a great escape.
(laughing) I like it, okay.
- It is an escape.
- And there are like over a 100 artists that you are drawing on to do this.
- Yeah, yeah, so this is our fourth version of Dreamscapes.
We've moved four times, and so this is the newest one.
But yeah, artists, volunteers, builders, creative wizards, and audio visual specialists.
Yes, lot of hands are put into this.
A lot of love has been put into the exhibit, so.
- Oh, boy, I'd say, I mean, it's a huge project.
But it's impressive also that it's sustainable.
- Yeah, yeah, so we shoot for about 90% of all materials to be upcycled or repurposed materials.
And so we work with Salt Lake County, The Salt Palace Convention Center, other partners like ReStore Habitat for Humanity, other partners.
And we acquire all of these materials and then we repurpose them and re-imagine them into these wonderful, whimsical worlds of art and imagination.
It's amazing.
- I mean, it is pretty incredible.
And when do you see it opening?
- So this new version will open, February 7th, is the projected opening date right now.
So we're super excited to show the community what we've been working on.
- Great, and where in Gateway?
Quickly.
- Okay, we're down by the fountain, so.
Just right there if you're by the fountain, we're just to the south of it.
You'll see our signs all over the place down there if you're down at the Gateway.
- Well, thanks for being here.
- Thank you for having me.
- And if you'd like to know more about Art Alliances Dreamscapes opening February 7th, the opening will be from noon to 10:00 p.m. at the Gateway.
