(gentle upbeat music) (gentle upbeat music ends) - The Utah Film Center's Tumbleweeds Film Festival for Kids celebrates children and families' unique stories.
This year's theme, Finding Joy Together.
And here to tell us more is Education and Family Programs Director Julie Gale.
Hi, Julie, welcome back.
- Thank you for having me.
- Yeah.
So you're partnering again with the libraries and doing it at the Viridian.
So tell us about the films you'll be showing.
- Yes, we are partnering with the County Library System, which gives us the ability to make all of our films free to the public.
And some of the films that we're excited about the most are our shorts collection, because not only does that have unique animation from around the world in different styles, it also features films from children that are here in Utah that made them.
In addition to that, we also have some other feature-length films.
The one we're most excited about is the film called "Dancing Queen."
It'll be the last film we show of the day, and it's just a fun film about a person who's trying to become good at dancing, but is not naturally gifted at it, but also learns a lot about themselves along the way.
- That's great, that's great.
And I know you do workshops too for the kids.
- That's correct, yes, we do workshops.
The workshops are the only thing that's at cost.
But what's great about them is that they're very small class sizes being taught by professionals in that field that you're learning that skill from.
So if you have a kid at home that's a budding animator or someone who's constantly filming content on their phone or their smart devices, these workshops can help them learn a little bit more about how to do that thoughtfully, but also how to do it skillfully as well, and they're a lot of fun along the way, very hands-on.
- All right, I bet kids love them.
- They do, they do.
They usually sell out very quickly.
We do have a few spaces available now, so if there are families that are interested in registering their children for these workshops, I highly recommend doing that in the next couple weeks.
- Yeah, do it right away.
- Yeah.
- And then, you've got special guests from "High School Musical"?
- We do, actually, it's the production designer of "High School Musical."
- Oh, okay.
- Mark Hofeling actually grew up here in Utah, and he has been the production designer of all the "High School Musical" films, in addition to "The Descendants" films, which are on the Disney Channel.
And so we're excited to have him share his skills about how he develops the worlds of the films.
- Oh, that's great.
Well, thank you for being here and good luck.
- Thank you.
