(bright music) - Utah Presents and the University of Utah School of Dance is presenting 'lectric Eye, a highly physical dance performance, pushing physical and sonic limits.
Sheri Jardine is here to tell us more.
Hi, Sheri.
So great to have you back again.
- Thank you for having us.
- And I can't believe this is the last one of your season.
- No, we're finishing it out on a high.
It's gonna be a great performance.
- Okay, so tell me about 'lectric Eye.
- It's choreographed by Joanna Kotze.
We actually opened our season with a piece of hers as well in August called Big Beats.
That was an outdoor piece, a short piece, and 'lectric Eye is kind of a companion piece, but it's a full length evening work.
It'll be performed at Marriott Center for Dance.
And like you mentioned, it is a highly physical piece.
It's really inspired by the human body's potential for power and resistance, bringing those connections between like the music and the movement to really push the physical limits of the performers.
- Wow, okay.
And you said it's sonic somehow the music?
- Yeah, the music is very rhythmic.
I mean, sonic is the best word, but it's definitely well-envelop.
And I think being in the venue like Marriott Center for Dance, where it's so intimate, it'll really be almost, I feel like it will almost feel interactive for the audience because you really so close to the performers and the music will be so enveloping.
It's gonna be, if you're a fan of dance, you really shouldn't miss it.
- It's a great place to do it.
So are there some local performers?
There's a mix?
- Yeah, it's a mix of performers.
The choreographer, Joanna Kotze will be here to perform as well.
And she has a couple of visiting dancers that come with her.
But the performance also features Molly Heller, who's a faculty in the School of Dance.
She's performed with Joanna before and was kind of key in bringing this performance here.
But she has a solo in the piece that's really incredible.
I actually got to see it in New York a year and a half ago.
And her piece is really a powerful part of the show.
And then there's also some other faculty and students as well as some local dancers.
- Ah, sounds great.
Anyway, well, thank you so much for being here, and congratulations on a great season.
- Thank you so much, Mary.
- And if you'd like to know more about that upcoming dance performance, it's 'lectric Eye from Utah Presents.
It's May 9th through 11th at 7:30 in the Marriott Center for Dance on the University campus.
