(lively music) Mary Dickson: Utah's Hogle Zoo creates champions for wildlife and upholds the highest animal care standards in the world as an accredited member of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums.
And here to tell us about upcoming fall events is Heather Barnum.
Welcome, Heather.
- Hello.
- So fall's a great time to visit the zoo.
- Not only is it cooler temperatures for you, it's also cooler temperatures and the animals can be more active.
So it's really a good time to visit.
We even have a red baby panda cub that you'll be able to see come out of its den, some zebra fouls.
So you'll always wanna check out what's happening on our website.
- Yeah, and it's kind of people's last chance to see Christie and Zuri, the elephants before they leave.
- It is.
We made the difficult decision, but the right decision for our elephants to go to another accredited zoo.
That's so that they can join a multi-generational herd and have babies of their own.
Of course, we'll continue to follow their journey but we'll also be having a celebration for you to come and say goodbye in late September so be sure to check out the website for that.
- Oh bon voyage for the elephants.
That's great.
That's great.
- That's right.
- And I know another thing you have is a new wildlife rescue program.
- So we are opening a new exhibit.
There's always something changing, whether animals are leaving or animals are coming in.
Wild Utah is the first major expansion of the zoo since 2014, it's opening that whole east side.
Remember where the train went?
- [Mary] Oh yeah.
- So the train will have a whole new route, an all-electric vehicle, and you'll be able to see exhibits like the cougar, the badger, bobcat, wild burros.
All of those animals are coming in and most of them have been rescued through our partnership with the Division of Wildlife resources here in the state.
- Oh, that's such a great idea.
And what happens to them after the rescue?
- They get to come out and be ambassadors for their animals.
Most of them are ones that we couldn't re-release.
They've either been injured or they've been in human-animal conflict unfortunately.
So that's what we want to make sure we showcase so that you can learn how to protect them in Utah's wild sapces.
- A great goal.
Thank you for doing it.
And thanks for being here.
Thanks.
- Thank you so much.
- And if you'd like to know more about what's happening at the zoo this fall, and the bon voyage for the elephants, go to hoglezoo.org.
That's hoglezoo.org.
I'm Mary Dickson.
