(upbeat music) - Utopia Early Music Ensemble is presenting the Knight of the Lion, an Arthurian legend, and it will include a charming mix of music.
Co-founder Chris LeCluyse is here with more information about the upcoming performance.
Hi, Chris.
- Hi.
- Thank you so much for being here.
I know you sing with 'em and I always like your concerts, I have to tell you.
- [Chris] Well, thank you.
Thank you.
- Yes.
But this is a little something different, so tell us about it.
- It is.
Yeah, so The Knight of the Lion is going to be a concert of medieval music with a storyteller.
Stephen Gashler is going to be telling the story of Yvain, Knight of the Lion.
This is based on a early medieval French poem, one of the very first stories based in the what we would call the Arthurian cinematic universe.
And then in between episodes from the story, we'll be performing medieval music, mostly from medieval France, to give you a sense of the culture, to bring the story to life.
Kind of take a little musical tour of the Middle Ages.
- Yeah.
And it's always wonderful, really.
In St. Mark's Episcopal Church.
- [Chris] Correct.
- Yes, yes.
And you've got more going on though.
You've got dances.
Yes.
Yeah, quite a lot of variety.
So everything from simple melodies, plaintive songs that would've been sung by the Troubadours and their Northern French cousins, the Trouvère's all the way up to early polyphony.
So music for multiple voices, dance songs, really as the mood suits, right?
We even have a Norwegian folk song that happens to capture a bit of that early medieval flare.
- Wow.
You've got it all.
And I know the concerts, isn't it pay as you come or as you can?
- Utopia really prides itself on we call it pay is able.
So we suggest for general admission that folks contribute $20 and that seniors and students give $15.
But there's no absolute admission.
You can pay what you like.
- Wonderful.
Well, thank you so much for being here to tell us about it.
- Absolutely.
