I am the Indigenous programs coordinator here at the Indigenous Resource Cultural Center.
Here at UWS.
I want to thank you all for coming in and being a part of Anishinaabe-giizhigad or Indigenous Peoples Day.
Our tribal nations are critical parts of our region and our community, and it is a good thing to pause, to remember, and to honor the language, culture, traditions, economic vitality and sovereignty of these nations.
But today is a very special day for me.
This is my and the City of Superior's 10th Indigenous Peoples Day proclamation.
I invite you to listen to the drum, to watch the dancers, to observe this rich, vibrant culture.
And consider the original caretakers of this land.
The Anishinaabe people.
Miigwech.
We need to be doing native policy every single day.
We need to be recognizing treaty rights, sovereignty, teaching language, teaching art and music, bringing it into every single space on ceded territory, every single day.
