This guy and I, we would just jam together all the time.
And he told me, he goes, if you ever start a band for real, I'll play bass for you.

I was like, okay, no more shrinking violet.
I think I was just kind of tired of sitting on the music and doing nothing with it.
More than anything, it's like I wanted friends to collaborate with and make music with.

- We've been, I think it's- - 12 years?

- Yeah.
This October we're 12 years of Crime Lab.
We've all been roommates on and off for years and a strong friendship base before the band ♪ How do you put up with me ♪ My wife calls it the world's longest group project.
The real skill comes down to is the small negotiations, the small communication week in and week out.
It's focusing on friendship and maintaining those relationsh through that process.
- Mm-hmm.
- What is the end goal if it's not maintaining friendship and having fun with these people Year one, you have no idea where you're going.
Year 12, we've done quite a bit.
I think it's fascinating seeing how the art's progressed and where it's going and how much we've learned, the maturity in it.
And what we can bring to songs that we wrote year one.
And that the songs stay fluid wherever we're at with our musical journey and education.
Our interests can start to come out more as we still play.
We've been talking this week about process-focused instead of goal-focused.
If we're doing everything right, if we're practicing right and feel good about what we're doing, we can't really go wrong.
