The governor even tossed out his ABA basketball.
It was standing room only at this Vienna fire station, and candidates cycled through to the podium with many encouragements to vote the whole slate in.
JASON MIYARES: And you sure don't want to see us Maryland our Virginia, right?
[crowd boos] And so we need you to grab those yard signs, those bumper stickers.
We need you to talk to your neighbors about the importance of this election.
BILLY SHIELDS: Some pundits have wondered whether gubernatorial candidate, Winsome Earle-Sears... WINSOME EARLE-SEARS: If things are so bad then here I am.
An immigrant.
A Black woman.
And yet, I am second in command in the former capital of the Confederate states.
BILLY SHIELDS: ...and controversial lieutenant governor candidate John Reid, could make common cause.
JOHN REID: You know that for 30 years, I'm a different kind of candidate up here.
I've stood up for minorities and unpopular people.
And yes, on occasion, even Democrats who have been wronged.
BILLY SHIELDS: And while they appeared on the same stage Tuesday night, the two kept their distance.
Questions still persist whether they'll campaign together.
Republicans are hoping to pitch a unified ticket to Virginians this fall.
Early voting starts September 19.
