As sightings of mysterious drones continue to be reported in more than a dozen NJ counties, residents and elected officials are frustrated over the lack of information about the objects. The mystery prompted a congressional hearing Tuesday, where federal officials noted that agencies are unsure whether the drones pose a threat, despite assurances from Gov. Phil Murphy and local law enforcement.

Learn Moreabout PBS online sponsorshipeven the FBI says it doesn't know who's behind all the Drone sightings that have been reported in New Jersey and the region over the last few weeks The Mystery of the unidentified drones prompted Congress to get involved holding a hearing on Tuesday where Federal officials admitted that despite repeated assurances from Governor Murphy and local law enforcement they can't say for sure whether the drones pose a threat during the hearing assistant FBI director Robert wheeler told New Jersey representative Chris Smith and others the drones are not coming from local military bases adding there's no reason though to believe the drones are dangerous but no one can say definitively senator Cory Booker sent a letter asking the Department of Homeland Security FBI and other agencies for a briefing and to make any available info open to the public during the hearing Smith said a coast guard official told him about a dozen drones were recently spotted following one of their ships off the coast of Island Beach State Park but we always seem to miss something and I'm very concerned that we're missing something here last night we had a number of other people there including a commanding officer from the from the Coast Guard who said that one of their 47 foot um motor lifeboats was followed by between 12 and 30 of these drones as they went U through the water followed right behind them [Music]
