after 584 days in captivity Tennifly native Idon Alexander was released by Hamas today He was the last living US resident held hostage by Hamas Alexander's release came after direct talks between the Trump administration and Hamas leadership Hamas indicated his release was unconditional and could lead to a ceasefire and a broader end to the war Initial reports from Israeli media following Alexander's release indicate that he suffered severe torture while in captivity that he was handcuffed and held in a cage Alexander's mom Yael Alexander traveled from New Jersey to Israel to be there when he was released Alexander is now undergoing medical treatment to determine his condition and whether he's well enough to fly to Qatar to meet President Trump and thank him for his efforts to free him Here at home a massive crowd gathered in Tennifly in the hours leading up to Alexander's release And just pure immense joy and relief when they finally heard the news that he was free It's amazing I'm proud of this community It's uh so strong Uh we really you know uh uh supported Alexander family uh in the toughest days and uh we also very happy for them to to bring it down on finally to bring it down on home
