Matches begin Sunday at MetLife Stadium and will run until mid-July
World Cup fever is already sweeping New Jersey a full year before the global spotlight officially lands on the Garden State. But the excitement starts now. This weekend kicks off the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup, the biggest club football event the U.S. has ever hosted. Thirty-two teams from all six FIFA confederations are competing.

Learn Moreabout PBS online sponsorshipand that World Cup fever is already taking over New Jersey a year before the big game will be played in the Garden State And we are here for it Now this weekend kicks off club games It's actually called the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup and it's the biggest club football event in the US 32 teams from across all six FIFA Confederations are competing The matches are being held at Metife Stadium in the Meadowlands starting Sunday between Brazil's Palmas and Portugal's FC Porto Other games are kicking off in New York and Philly There's 63 matches total that'll be played through the middle of July so there's plenty of chances to catch one There's also a number of restaurants and bars that'll be hosting watch parties probably drink specials too This week Governor Murphy and members of the FIFA 2026 World Cup host committee named Liberty State Park in Jersey City the official FanFest site for next year And they're promising to bring 39 days of live match broadcasts concerts food and all kinds of interactions for even the youngest of fans [Music]
