Newark Mayor Ras Baraka said weapons tied to other crimes around the city were found
In Newark, a shooting in a home Wednesday night ended with three people killed, including an 8-year-old boy and the shooter, according to authorities. A man entered the home and shot the boy in the chest. Two other men were also shot, one pronounced dead at the scene, another whose wounds were not fatal. The boy was rushed to University Hospital but died very shortly after.

Learn Moreabout PBS online sponsorshipthe city of Newark is reeling today after a shooting in a home last night ended with three people killed including an eight-year-old boy according to authorities that number includes the shooter a man who entered the home and shot the boy in the chest the boy was rushed to university hospital but died very shortly after two other men were also shot one pronounced dead at the scene another whose wounds were not fatal according to the Attorney General's office several officers pursued the man on foot after he fled the scene two officers fired their weapons killing him the Attorney General's office by law must now investigate the police involved shooting and present it to a grand jury Newark mayor Ros Baraka held a press conference today to offer more details from the scene he said weapons tied to other crimes around the city were found along with drugs as for the boy who was killed he played baseball in the Jackie Robinson Little League he survived by his mother and Aunt who were both present during the shooting here's what the mayor had to say about the trauma the family and and Community are now dealing with I don't like being at the hospital for no reason and I certainly don't like being there to watch children die so this is a passion plea I guess to the rest of the community here that we need the office of violence prevention and Trauma recovery that they're out there in the middle of the night in them streets and in those hospitals trying to prevent alternative violence or extra violence and calming people down uh who are being traumatized as this thing goes on [Music]
