After recent SCOTUS decision, NJ attorney general clarifies enforcement of state law
New Jersey Attorney General Matt Platkin this week said that the recent controversial U.S. Supreme Court ruling on LGBTQ+ rights will have little impact in the state. In a 6-3 decision last month, the high court limited anti-discrimination laws across the country by siding with a Colorado web designer who did not want to do business with same-sex couples on the basis of her First Amendment rights.

The high court struck a blow to anti-discrimination laws across the nation, siding with a Colorado web designer who didn't want to do business with same sex couples because it infringed on her First Amendment rights.
Well, the justices agreed her web sites were original and customized and tailored for each customer, making them an extension of the designer's own speech.
But according to Attorney General Platkin, that decision only applies to a narrow range of scenarios directly involving free speech and won't change how New Jersey's Law Against Discrimination applies to a majority of businesses and vendors open to the public in the state.
In other words, they'll still be prohibited from discriminating based on race, gender, sexual orientation and more.
