And it is living up to its name, especially here in New Jersey, where the state has seen a growing amount of cases among children, the respiratory disease that can often be confused with a cold or even the flu is treatable with antibiotics.
But if left untreated, it can become dangerous and turn into a more serious form of pneumonia.
And the bacteria is most commonly spread through coughing, sneezing and close contact, making children who often are in close contact with each other at school more susceptible.
Health officials are now urging schools, daycares, nursing homes and other facilities where groups are in close contact for long periods of time to report any clusters to their county health departments.
