Following April’s historic weeklong union protest at Rutgers University, the adjunct faculty union says that some of its members did not receive the back pay they were promised during the contract negotiations. The back pay was supposed to be included in paychecks distributed on June 9, according to Amy Higher, the president of the Rutgers Adjunct Faculty Union.

Learn Moreabout PBS online sponsorshipwell contract fights are happening again between Rutgers University faculty members and the administration this time though it's over missed payments of promised retroactive salary increases one after a week-long strike by three campus unions in April the Rutgers adjunct faculty union says adjunct lecturers were shortchanged alleging some of the nearly 2 700 lecturers they represent never got that back pay the money was owed by the university when it agreed to include retroactive increases in paychecks sent out June 9th the union is accusing the administration of threatening not to pay them until September at the earliest and not at all if the lecturers don't return to teach this fall in a statement to Rutgers University spokesperson acknowledged that more than 1600 adjunct lecturers didn't get their full raises and retroactive payments last week saying they're working to process those issues and get them sorted and it's also creating an emergency payment system for any of the workers experiencing hardships due to the delay the union though is calling the response inadequate we're getting a lot of information from adjuncts that they're blaming the union strike in April for the fact that they have to cancel classes and you know blaming the strike it sounds somewhat retaliatory towards Union or organizing our members are really this disrupts their lives they expected this money they need this money and they deserve this money [Music]
