I'm in a song called "Milwaukee."
(gentle music) (gentle music continues) ♪ Hey, Milwaukee, are you mine ♪ ♪ I'm sorry I'm not out tonight ♪ ♪ I'd wash my pills down with a beer ♪ ♪ Check my hair and shed a tear ♪ ♪ But instead ♪ ♪ I'm hiding in here ♪ ♪ I see Old Glory in the street ♪ ♪ Didn't think I'd make it past the age of 18 ♪ ♪ Now the people I used to pity ♪ ♪ take pity on me ♪ (gentle music continues) ♪ Hey, East Brady, looking good ♪ ♪ I must be crazy, 'cause I'm not out tonight ♪ ♪ Oh, the streets are bubbling ♪ ♪ Tell me, do you love me ♪ ♪ I'm not out ♪ ♪ Tonight ♪ ♪ And Jeffery says that I should get a dog ♪ ♪ But I can't take care of myself ♪ ♪ Let alone anyone ♪ ♪ And everything I do ♪ ♪ I do ♪ ♪ Is to feel alive ♪ (Aymen vocalizing) (Aymen vocalizing) ♪ So am I still in love ♪ ♪ Or am I just hungry for a yes ♪ ♪ Coulda gone back home to London and left this place ♪ ♪ Do I give up on you, Milwaukee ♪ ♪ Will you be my one that got away ♪ ♪ Will you be my one that got away ♪ The song "Milwaukee" is about when I first moved here.
I was kind of drifting a lot.
I didn't really "move" move here.
It kind of just, I kept coming back, sort of thing, and then, before you know it, you have more tangible connections to people and life.
And that song's kind of about when I was first, like, "settling" settling here.
I think this song came out of, like, I always say, the one night I stayed in.
I think there was a night in my new apartment where I'd been out, I think it was like the first week or two.
I'd been out all week.
I'd went to a Father John Misty show the night before, and then I think I was doing nothing for the first time, and I was like, this is the one night I stayed in, and I felt weird and guilty about it.
So I wrote that song that was, like, (chuckling) I'm not out tonight, you know?
It was kind of the refrain of that song.
And yeah, that song's kind of about that.
It's kind of about finding my feet, and just being where I am, and musing on that.
And then, at the end of the song, it's kind of about, yeah, I could be back in London, I could be back in England, but hey, I'm here, you know?
There was a realness in that that I think, I still love playing that song.
