It's a song written into the feeling of losing a friendship.
It's written for two old friends of mine, friends from high school, friends from childhood, who, in our adult lives, we hurt each other and drifted apart.
And... I found very little closure from the way that we left things.
And I also found that looking for closure was something that was keeping me from moving on.
And I would dive into mixing music, reading waveforms, cutting them up, splicing endlessly late into the night, and I just found myself running away from the feelings.
So I wrote the song as a way to express not only the feelings, the story, the unsettledness, but also, to remind myself and them if they ever hear it, that I still love them, and that I still know that at some point we will change from who we were.
I've already changed, you know.
They already have to, I'm sure, and that I know at some point, we'll be able to come back together.
But until then, I just have my hope, and my hope hurts.
