Richmond City Mayor Levar Stoney says he is no longer running for governor, but will run for lieutenant governor of the state.
On Tuesday, Stoney said, “Running for lieutenant governor is the right move for me and my family, the right move for the Democratic Party, the right move for the future of the Commonwealth of Virginia.
This makes current Representative Abigail Spanberger the presumptive Democratic candidate in next year's gubernatorial election.
The Richmond Redevelopment and Housing Authority is pausing evictions in the wake of a $3 million backlog of unpaid rent.
At least 14 pending eviction cases were dismissed from Richmond General District Court on Wednesday.
In a pause, RRHA CEO Steven Nesmith said would last at least 30 days.
STEVEN NESMITH: Our lease enforcement pause was done in part due to my wanting to triple check our calculations to ensure that rents are properly calculated.
BILLY SHIELDS: A lawyer with Legal Aid Justice Center told VPM News the dismissals are a step in the right direction, but that RRHA should do more to keep residents housed.
