The director of Chicago’s office of labor standards weighs in on wage theft.

Wage theft can take many forms, from failure to pay for overtime to withholding tips. The city of Chicago estimates over $400 million are stolen from workers each year here. And Latinos and immigrants are especially at risk of wage theft. A Northwestern University study showed that immigrant and Latino workers were twice as likely to earn less than the minimum wage compared with white Americans.
