WE'RE JOINED WITH MORE.
THIS ALLEGATION IS AN INVESTIGATION OF THE INSPECTOR GENERAL'S OFFICE.
TELL US ABOUT IT.
>> ACCORDING TO THAT INVESTIGATION AND ALLEGATIONS THAT WERE LAID OUT IN COURT THIS WEEK, 56-YEAR-OLD JEFFREY CRIBBS FOR YEARS TRIED AND SUCCEEDED IN GETTING OUT OF TRAFFIC TICKETS BY PROVIDING FRAUDULENT DOCUMENTS, FAKE POLICE REPORTS, MAKING FALSE STATEMENTS WHILE UNDER OATH DURING ADMINISTRATIVE HEARINGS.
THIS WENT ON FOR SEVERAL YEARS AND OCCURRED DOZENS OF TIMES LIKE YOU SAID BETWEEN 2009 AND 2022 ALL WHILE CRIBBS WASN'T AN OFFICER WITH THE CHICAGO POLICE DEPARTMENT.
>> HOW MANY TICKETS ARE WE TALKING ABOUT AND HOW DID HE CONTEST THEM AND SUCCESSFULLY GET OUT OF THEM?
>> ACCORDING TO PROSECUTORS, THERE WERE AT LEAST 44 INSTANCES OF TICKETS HE CONTESTED AND WERE ABLE TO GET OUT OF.
SOME OF THE CASES HE MADE FALSE STATEMENTS UNDER OATH.
IN OTHER CASES HE ALLEGEDLY WOULD CLAIM HIS GIRLFRIEND HAD STOLEN THE VEHICLE AND THAT SHE WAS THE ONE WHO WAS ACTUALLY DRIVING WHENEVER THESE VIOLATIONS OCCURRED OR TICKETS WERE ISSUED.
PROSECUTORS SAID YESTERDAY THAT IN ALL HE ALLEGEDLY GOT OUT OF PAYING MORE THAN $3,500 IN ALL THESE TICKETS OVER THE YEARS.
>> A LOT OF TICKETS AND A LOT OF TICKETS SUCCESSFULLY CONTESTED.
WHAT CHARGES IS CRIBBS FACING RIGHT NOW AND WHAT'S THE POTENTIAL PUNISHMENT?
>> SEVERAL FELONY COUNTS.
HE'S BEEN CHARGED WITH FOUR COUNTS OF PERJURY, FOUR COUNTS OF FORGERY AND COULD BE SENTENCED TO PROBATION OR TO A PRISON TERM OF BETWEEN TWO TO FIVE YEARS ON EACH OF THE COUNTS.
>> DON'T TRY THIS AT HOME ESPECIALLY IF YOU ARE A CHICAGO
