- To taste the springs of Saratoga.
(upbeat music) (bright music) So we just had some fun going around Saratoga to various springs.
We collected samples from some of the springs and we have them here in front of us to do a tasting.
- With the help of our intern, Lily, we've put all of the water in different bottles and labeled them and now we're gonna taste them and give you our feedback.
- Some of these are strong, some of 'em are a little gaseous, some of 'em are a little, you know, plain.
Let's find out.
- First up, we're gonna start with Deer Park.
(bright music) - I mean, you notice all these waters are clear, right?
They're clear, but they do taste very different.
We've noticed, going around, it's surprising how subtle the differences are sometimes.
Sometimes they're not so subtle, let me tell you.
Let's see what we have here.
- Cheers.
- Hm, you got some minerals in there.
- Hmm.
- You have some, a slight liver flavor.
- That is potent.
- That is potent.
- That is potent.
- I would call that pretty gaseous.
- Gaseous, yeah.
Metallicy.
- Metallicy.
- Yes.
- What's next?
Let's see.
- Congress.
- Congress - Used to serve Congress water on cruise ships.
- Oh my gosh.
- It's supposed to be good for digestion.
Ready?
- Ready.
- Slainte - Slainte.
- Oh, all right, that's smoother.
- Oh, yeah, smoother.
It's still a little, like, rusty.
- Pungent.
Rusty is a good word.
- Rusty.
- It's smooth and rusty.
(bright music) - Okay, next.
Let's see, we got Colombian.
- Colombian.
- Yeah, I like the coffee, but this is water from Saratoga.
- It's from Low Berry Lake, actually.
- Oh.
- Yep.
Wait, it's from a lake?
(bright music) - Okay, here we go, cheers.
- That tastes, city water.
I think we're just- - This is city water.
- This is city water.
Delicious.
It's so good they use it for their whole city.
- Okay.
All right, let's see what's next.
Old Red.
It's not red though.
- No.
Old Red is near High Rock Park downtown.
- Oh, okay.
Wow.
- Yes.
Looks good.
- Okay.
- All right, cheers.
- Okay, cheers.
- Old Red.
- Old Red.
- Ooh.
Tastes like how pennies smell.
- Tastes like how pennies smell, this is, if you like liver pate, get a jug of this and spread it on your bread.
- Very livery, very irony.
- Yes.
It's supposed to be good for your skin problems like psoriasis, and eczema.
- Oh.
- Pastore.
- Pastore.
How much do you wish this was whiskey?
- Oh my gosh, yeah.
- This one is Empire.
- Empire, I love those apples.
- Mm.
- Okay.
- Hopefully, it'll taste like the apples.
- Maybe it will.
(bright music) - This looks clear, it doesn't look bubbly.
- Cheers.
- Wow, This tastes like water.
- You could bottle it.
- Yeah.
I'll actually take- - You could bottle any of these for that matter, but this one, you're gonna want to drink.
- This tastes like really clean water.
Delicious.
- Wow.
- Would recommend.
- Saving some of that for later.
- So next up we have Polaris.
- Ooh.
Polaris is one of the few carbonated sparkling waters from the springs.
- Oh, I can't wait to try this.
It might be good for gin and tonic?
- Yeah, and they say it makes good smoothies too.
- Wow.
- Ready?
Cheers.
- No.
- Oh, up your kilt.
- Whoa.
(bright music) - Okay.
- Okay.
It is gin and tonic with a little.
- A little sparkly, very subtle, but you do see the bubbles.
- You see the bubbles.
They're there.
- Yeah.
It is smoother and not as sharp as some of the others.
- Yeah.
I mean, you know, it's not bad.
It definitely, it's got that a little bit of that gassiness, but have more- (indistinct) (bright music) - We've been on field trip all day, and we have been trying all the different springs, but we encourage you to take a walk around, go on your own field trip, make your own little water tour of Saratoga and have a great time.
- This is just a sampling of some of the water from the springs of Saratoga.
We didn't try everything, so come down to Saratoga, try some yourself, maybe you'll find a new favorite.
- So thank you for joining us, this episode of "Field Trip."
