I'm Howard, lots to talk about from week three in college football while the Grambling Tigers were on their bye week.

Everybody else throughout the state has some games and some tough games for our teams throughout the state of Louisiana.

There was an historic win for the Lions from southeastern.

We'll talk about that in just a moment.

Also, some on field changes for the demons from Northwestern State and a return to the win column for the raging Cajuns, who had a tough week one week ago out in California against USC.

But let's start this post notes with the game that everybody was talking about up in Oxford, Mississippi.

The return of Lane Kiffin.

They had fences and gates up to protect him and the Tigers getting through.

And they were squeezed in like sardines.

GameDay was there all the national attention on this game played under the lights in Oxford.

The rebels already had an early three nothing lead when Trinidad Chambliss would roll out, hit trail on Ray 38 yards on that completion, and it would wind up leading to a Quan Lacy touchdown.

Look at it and help them push in the end zone.

Ten Nothing Ole Miss up early on the Tigers early second quarter.

Sam Levitan at quarterback.

Swamp for the Tigers.

Look at three four blue jerseys collide on.

It's a loss of five.

Tigers have to give the ball up.

We're five minutes into the second when Chambliss is trail on Ray across the middle 21 yards and it's 17.

Nothing Ole Miss.

Just like that.

This time, though, the Tigers do respond.

Dylan Jones off the direct snap.

He takes it in from two yards out.

Tigers cut the deficit to ten.

It's now 177 but under two minutes to go.

And that's plenty of time for Chambliss, who takes the rebels right down the field and caps it with a 20 yard dart to deuce Alexander.

That makes it 247 rebels at the half.

Almost 300 yards of offense for Ole Miss in the first half.

And there were 7 to 9 on third downs.

But in the third quarter, Tiger defense starts to put pressure on Chambliss.

He tosses this one up picked off by Jackie Jackson, who takes him against good field position for the Tigers.

And Sam Leavitt would eventually cash it in from six yards out.

First and goal.

And now all of a sudden it's just 2414.

Here come the purple and gold Tigers.

Get the ball back and Leavitt goes to LSU.

Mr.

go two on offense.

And that's trade as green looking left.

Green holds a spot picks up 23 yards on the completion.

And then as the drive continues Leavitt's going to hit Winston Watkins.

Tight coverage.

Watch a drop back go right side into the corner of the end zone, but Watkins comes down with it and gets the foot in.

All of a sudden it's 2421.

And guess who has Big Mo on its side.

Early fourth quarter Tigers get the ball back.

Trade as green on the reception.

Great yardage but takes a big shot here as he goes down.

And he would not get up.

He would be taken off the field and would not return.

More on him in just a moment.

Third and two now crucial play.

Tigers try the direct snap again.

This time stopped for a loss of two.

So instead of a touchdown in the lead they settle for a field goal.

And we're tied at 24.

But oh what a touchdown would have meant Trinidad gets the ball back.

Yep he does what Trinidad does goes left side turns the corner.

Takes it in.

Now on the extra point LSU is offsides.

It moves Ole Miss to less than a yard out.

They go for two and they get it.

So now it's 3224 with six minutes to go in the Tigers know they have to score and get a two point conversion.

They get down the field.

Fourth and goal needing a touchdown.

Sam Leavitt's pass is deflected and picked off.

It's now a 14 game home win streak for Ole Miss as the rebels return ruined the return of Lane Kiffin 32 to 24.

The rebels get the win.

Comments and plenty of them afterwards.

It's what all week.

And my biggest fear every minute was, you know when the game's at the end and Trinidad as the ball in his hand and he got made a lot of plays during the game and did a great job.

It's why, you know, I said he's the hardest player to play in America.

And he showed up great today and tough game injury wise.

On his two you know losing Spears early and then trade as you know big factor.

But I'm proud of the guys battled back you know to be down like that at half and scoring and let them go down and score and then come back and go on a 170 run.

It was really good.

But at the end we didn't finish.

We could have finished on defense and stop him, you know, let him go down and score.

And then offense, we moved down and then stall there at the end with a critical false start to that moves us back.

I mean game is on us and we didn't come.

It's frustrating.

You know we want the game to be on us and we didn't execute when it mattered most.

I mean, I wanted to win this one more than any of them.

And we did it, so it's frustrating.

Put a lot of work into be successful.

And, you know, they've gone three of the four in my career.

And I'm just thinking of ways to come back better from it.

Looking back on it, seeing where I went wrong in my preparation, trying to learn from it, And I think it was a full circle moment for a lot of people that no player, no person's bigger than anybody else.

And this place has been built the right way with really good people, and that is up.

And that's where it's going to continue to go.

You know, kind of first time coming into this type of game without my dad.

It just it was a lot and it was really emotional, but it was not emotions maybe that I thought I would have felt from all the, you know, name calling, everything we got off the bus and everything, it was much more, just a lot of gratitude for, for this place and the people that changed my life.

Way bigger than than winning a football game.

Now, we showed you that hit on trade as Green Tiger fans are breathing a sigh of relief thanks to trade.

As Green's mom, who posted on Sunday social media that the MRI on her son's knee was negative.

Nothing torn, nothing broken.

She added he will have to miss a few games, yes, but it sure beats the alternative.

One of the Tiger's biggest offensive threats is expected to return to action, and we'll let you know when we get an official comment from LSU.

Well, coming off a nice win just one week ago for the Lions from southeastern.

They were back on the road up in north taking on you.

Monroe.

The Warhawks looking for their first win of the season.

The Lions as you heard Frank self will say on game day.

Game notes.

On game day Saturday he said, hey, it's a paycheck game.

We know that.

But we're going to go up north and show them what we're about because we recruit that area too.

Let's take in Monroe and show you how things played out between the Lions and the Warhawks mentioned you.

Parker Fulghum, who takes the shot bounces in for the score.

The extra point is no good, so you owe is trailing seven six at home.

Next possession for the Warhawks.

Carlisle sacked for a loss of 18.

What's worse, he lost the ball.

Lions recover.

Only take some five plays when Kyle Lowe hits Tristan Goodly 146.

Now.

Lions up by eight up in Monroe.

Brian Vincent has complained about third downs all season long.

Here's an example.

Third and three the Lions defense puts up a wall.

Warhawks have to give up the ball.

And it takes just five plays for SOU to strike again Kyrie Paul 17 yards as he sprints into the end zone 216 Lions under 40s to go in the half watch.

Southeastern for the first time in 36 tries gets a win over an Fiesta opponent 38 to 35 is the final 14 points for southeastern off of three Warhawk turnovers.

They'll next be in action at Northwestern State next weekend.

You owe Monroe homecoming when four makes a trip to Monroe after the ball game.

You can hear it in his voice.

The pressure is mounting for head coach Brian Vincent.

You know, very disappointing loss.

A loss that falls completely on my shoulders.

We got out coached.

We got outplayed.

And it's not winning football.

You know, you can't sit there and turn the ball over and do all the mistakes and the penalties that killed all our drives.

So just very undisciplined football, you know, lackadaisical and poorly coached.

You know, and that's me.

I'm talking to myself.

So I think the solution is not to turn it over, not to throw.

Pick six is right to the other defender.

I think it's not to get penalties that stop drives.

Drive after drive after drive.

And I think it's about executing and being able to put the ball in the end zone.

I could give a rip less how many yards we got.

It's more about turnovers and takeaways and, self-inflicted wounds and we self-inflicted ourself most of the night.

And we gave the ball away.

At the end of the day you got to give southeastern credit.

You know they're well coached.

They came in here and they beat us.

You know they came in here in our own house and they beat us.

And that's pretty much the bottom line.

At the end of the day, the guys that want to play will show up and we'll play in our and we'll get better.

And the ones that don't want to, they won't be here.

It's that simple.

It's not going to get any easier.

It's going to get tougher.

So we got to get tough with it.

So we'll find out a real.

Well the Southern Jaguars welcome the Wildcats from Louisiana Christian to the bluff Saturday night.

The cats were looking for their second win against a bigger NCAA opponent this season.

Remember they had the upset over Northwestern State to kick off the season.

Trey Holley got things going for the Jags early two yards out.

He would have himself a night seven nothing.

Jags mid first second and four Bryce Perkins to Darius Washington something Louisiana Christian does very well.

The big strike ability 47 yards tied in at seven.

But just two plays later it's Holley again.

One big stiff arm and he's gone.

Left side breaks tackles 69 yards.

And he's into the end zone.

It's 147.

Southern still in the first.

Under a minute to go Christian Johnson at quarterback.

He's going to find a John Smith Smith's left corner of the end zone.

And he catches it 217 Jags after one early second quarter.

And it's more southern Johnson this time rolls out ball fake cuts it back in.

And now he's got open lanes.

It's one tackle right at the end.

But he gets it into the end zone from 15 yards out.

It's 277.

Both teams had field goals with 30 to 10 at the break.

Third quarter Johnson steps back then up into the pocket.

He slings one out there to Myles Dixon 18 yards on the completion.

Made it 37 to 10.

Remember head coach Ben McLoughlin from Louisiana Christian talked to us on game notes on Saturday.

Said this would be a great challenge for his team because of who they're going to have to face in district.

Well, they got challenged by the Jags.

Wasn't enough to be able to answer the challenge.

They had a nice touch down here.

But in the fourth quarter Johnson to Waddell Clark Jr.

Back at the end zone it was 3724.

At this point Johnson throws for a buck 72 and four touchdowns.

But the star of the night was Trey Holley out of the southern backfield 22 carries for 206 yards and two touchdowns as southern winds at 50 to 31.

Louisiana Christian goes home to welcome Oklahoma Panhandle State next weekend.

Oh, boy.

They're going up to Jackson, Mississippi to face Jay State.

Well, the demons from Northwestern State made their first ever trip to the state of Utah to face Weber State.

Does it get any better than that scene right there?

Northwestern state offense comes out on the field.

He got the start at quarterback.

Lane McCorkle said last week some changes would be made early on.

Wilkie down seven.

Nothing right side 40 yards to Cameron Davis.

The drive stalls which leads to a field goal.

And this is about the way the demons season has gone so far.

And he's got a convoy.

And just like that instead of seven three it's 14.

Weaver state we're still just five minutes into this ball game and they're going to strike as Wilkie back in at quarterback.

Look he has some nice numbers.

We'll show you in just a moment.

Tries to toss it here to Zay Davis.

But the pitch is high.

It hits some high in the face mask.

Fumble Weber State recovers.

Just three plays later.

Just under ten minutes into the first quarter Spencer Ferguson goes 23 yards left side and it's 21.

Nothing before you've even gotten seated and comfortable there in Utah.

Second quarter hey demons, don't pack it in.

Wilkie on a gorgeous cross route by Brendan Webb for the touchdown.

The extra point is no good.

So it's $0.21.

Let's go.

Fourth quarter now games out of hand but the demons still working hard Wilkie to Z Davis 38 yards here as he sprints it far sideline into the end zone.

But Weaver State gets the win 49 to 20 Wilkie in his first start 26 of 52 for 291 had three touchdowns.

He also carried it 17 times for 49 yards.

Davis had 66 yards on three catches.

Next game for Northwestern State they're at home when they welcome those red hot lions.

Red hot lions from southeastern.

Well, after a big conference win at home last week against Texas Rio Grande Valley, the Nicholls Colonels jumped back out of conference one last time this season.

They traveled to Sam Houston to face the Bearcats.

These two teams had been very familiar with each other before Sam Houston jumped up a level.

Well, Nicholls might have wished they were still down a level.

This one got out of hand in a hurry for the Nicholls Colonels, taking to the heights and show you how things developed between these two ball clubs.

And yeah, this was a rough afternoon, as good as it was one week ago for Nicholls, not so much.

Today they're in Bearcat country after a seven play drive that went a total of five yards for Nicholls.

They had to give the ball to Sam Houston and they struck fast.

Up top they go Landon locked to Tim Burns junior 65 yards and seven nothing.

Bearcats Ian Rodrigue back to pass looking.

And it's picked off here by Raylan Adams who takes it back for six.

So it's 14.

Nothing.

But wait a minute.

There's a late flag as the official gets sniped and goes down to the turf.

There's a holding call on the Bearcats, so negates the touchdown would lead to a field goal.

It's ten nothing.

Now it's 17 nothing.

And I'm not really sure what this one's all about.

Rodrigue either trying to dump it, throw it away.

Stinks it off a helmet, and it's picked off by chiffon Ford land locked in the back end.

He hits Kamari Maxwell.

Three colonels can't bring him down, and he's gone 48 yards with a touchdown.

I told you it was a rough one for Tommy.

Right back in company.

There were now 24.

Nothing at this point.

It finishes 59 nothing.

Just 39 passing yards for Ian Rodrigue and the Nicholls Colonels.

Total yards just a buck 63.

Meanwhile, Sam Houston had 619 total yards and had the ball almost 36 minutes.

The Nichols Colonels will jump back into conference play next week when they host Lamar.

Saturday night we heard Coach Decimal on game notes, wanting to see some toughness after that loss to USC.

He liked what he saw there.

He wanted to see it carry over into more games early on.

Darrell Smith with a tough nine yards.

Look at how many bodies are still going with the running back who won't go down.

He carries the whole pile.

Once Winfield steps back, goes up top.

He takes a shot.

The pass is short, but here comes the flag.

That's interference.

And that's big yards for the raging Cajuns.

And two plays later Stephen Blanco from one yard out.

Touchdown raging Cajuns they're up seven.

Nothing at home.

Check out the defensive pressure by the cage defense on Wyatt or Burton.

Count the jerseys 3 or 4 of them getting into the backfield to get the six yard sack.

Cajuns had three sacks on the night early second quarter.

As you see that pressure they put on their lunch.

Winfield with the keeper finds that one little sliver of space in the middle takes it in from seven yards out.

Okay, so I've been up here too many times.

You know, disappointed about it.

And yes, tonight was ugly.

A lot of things that we were going to get corrected need to get corrected really quickly.

But I mean, you know, it's a team game.

And our defense was was unbelievable tonight.

The, the resolve that those guys had I mean, you can't get put in many positions that are worse than they were put in.

And they battled through the entire thing, you know, could not be more proud of that group that's coaching staff and those guys on that defensive side of the ball for the job that they did tonight, we just had to get that taste out of my mouth.

Like that's usually the USC.

You know everybody expecting us you know to lose by more or man that had a good win.

We're not trying to hit it you know I mean what losses are lost.

And we still had that taste in the mouth.

Like we just need to get that.

You know we just need to get this win.

So you know that's what we've been hearing on the whole week.

Like win number two.

You know, how fast can we get to win number six.

So we just needed to win this game.

So we locked in you know had some plays here in there.

But we ended up coming with victory at the end.

A lot of things that that go into winning football games.

And you know when you do as many things as we did poorly tonight, you know, it says a lot about your team.

Better find a way to win.

So, you know, a lot of things that that out there defensively wise in particular are championship caliber football is what it looked like.

But certainly there's a lot of things that are that are where we're lacking quite a bit there tonight and got to do it quick.

We have one more non-conference game and then, you know, the Western Division Six in a row.

So we got to get it fixed quickly.

Because those are the most important games that we're going to play or those Western Division games, and they're they're right around the corner.

But when you look at at lunch, Winfield had 201 total yards in this game, two touchdowns for the Cajuns.

UAB held it just 74 rushing yards and two for 12 on third downs.

One more non-conference game for the cage this next weekend there at Charlotte.

Then they will jump in to Sun Belt Conference play.

Well, one week after losing to Baton Rouge and LSU in a tough ball game, the Bulldogs from Louisiana Tech back on the road and back into power for conference.

This time, they were in the big 12.

They traveled to Waco, Texas to take on Dave Aranda, former D.C.

at LSU and the Baylor Bears.

Let's show you how this one played out in Waco.

We showed you the temperature on Monroe, remember, 120 degrees?

Yeah, it was hotter than that in Baylor.

It was a scorcher.

In Baylor, there's Dave Aranda, the head coach there.

He knew he would be facing a challenge in that Louisiana Tech defense after what they did to LSU for two and a half quarter.

Crucial play early on fourth and seven.

The bears go for it.

Nate Bennett's pass is incomplete.

But take a look at what happens in the line of scrimmage.

Hands to the face.

Personal foul that keeps the drive going for Baylor.

After they get 15 yards and three plays later Bennett is going to scramble.

Then he finds an opening, says, forget it, I'll take it myself.

25 yards in the touchdown seven nothing.

Baylor at home mid first quarter.

Trey gets to start at quarterback Blake Baker injured for Louisiana Tech.

Beautiful pass here to Jalen Mickens between two bear defenders 31 yards.

He brings it in.

That leads to this direct snap from Andrew Burnett two yards as he bulldozers his way to the end zone.

And we're tied at seven.

Second quarter Dawson Pendergrass bumps into his own quarterback but takes it in from one yard out.

And it's 147 bears.

First play of the next Baylor drive Nate Bennett plays pitch and catch with Lewis Brown the fourth.

This one was too easy.

As you can see he got behind both defenders.

The kick is blocked.

So it's 20 to 7.

Baylor early third quarter fourth and one.

Boy it sure does look like with that surge Jalen Miller got the yard.

But watch the official come in top of the screen.

Cook knew it right away.

Horrible spot.

And they give the ball back to the Baylor Bears.

And three plays later they make them pay.

Bennett to Jayden McGowan.

Time in the pocket.

Just launches this one up and again.

Gets behind the defenders 43 yards.

Makes it 267.

Bears 297 in the fourth.

Cook to Eli Finley the big tight end across the middle 2913 after this 19 yard touchdown.

But it was a tough outing in the afternoon for Louisiana Tech on the road.

36 to 19 is the final score.

Kukah goes to 223.

A touchdown and a pick also ran for 75 yards.

Missed opportunities in the red zone for Louisiana Tech just three of six their next game.

Two weeks after a bye week against Army, here is head coach Sonny Company.

You know obviously disappointed with the outcome.

You know, disappointed with not being able to come in here and to to get a win.

You know I think our guys you know for the first three games we play we play hard.

It's obvious that we play hard, but it's not good enough.

We don't execute well enough in certain situations.

And and we've got to get better.

And you know being in the red zone six times and you only score three times.

You know we've got to kick field goals better.

We've got to protect the ball better.

You know there's a lot of things to clean up from the standpoint of of this performance.

Matt Villatoro ready to see his team travels for the first time this season against a good team taking on University of Texas Rio Grande Valley.

This should pretty much tell you how the game went.

First quarter the rose go deep and it is picked off.

But wait a second.

Let's go back to the line of scrimmage.

Yep okay.

Pass interference.

That's 15 yards in the Cowboys.

Let's try to stop them next play Aidan Jacobson eight yard completion for the Rose.

Nice little move there.

But wait he gets out of bounds.

There's a late hit.

Here comes a flag that's a personal foul.

And more yardage against McNeese.

Next play Malachi Lane five yards here as he comes.

Right side watch at the end.

Face mask.

Here comes another flag.

Next play Jacobson is going to hit it for the touchdown 283 yards for the arrows on this drive.

And it leads to this touchdown pass.

And it's seven nothing Texas Rio Grande Valley five minutes into the second Jacobson puts the Cowboys on a little bit of a spin cycle.

Watch out of the shotgun.

One little fake swoop right there.

Spins it turns it gets it into the end zone.

Seven yards out 14 nothing.

And in the third quarter Jacobson will take it in from three yards out.

It was a rough night for the Pope's four turnovers in the game 476 yards.

They gave up 342 on chunk plays.

Texas Real Grande Valley wins at 27 to 10.

Next up for McNeese East Texas A&M in conference play.

And The Tulane Green Wave, Back on the road Saturday.

Back facing another power conference opponent, this time in Manhattan, Kansas, facing Kansas State.

First quarter, second possession of the ball game here.

Tight win for Kane Simmons hits Oliver Mitchell.

Junior 41 yards and the Green Wave are on the move Simmons then finishes the drive nine yards here.

It's seven.

Nothing.

Green wave early on the road now seven three in the second quarter Avery Johnson at quarterback for Kansas State.

Not sure why more people are talking about him nationally but he is a problem.

Tremendous speed at the quarterback position 26 yards on the gain there.

Then Johnson rolls out for the pass.

That's going to get some great yardage all the way down to the one yard line.

This game winds up being all Kansas State as they're about to punch it in from Jay Harris from one yard out.

Ten seven Kansas State would have the lead at this point.

They would go on and get the win 31 to 20.

And Tulane is back home next week when they host Southern Miss out at Yeoman Stadium.

So that puts a wrap on week three of college football around our state.
