(upbeat music) - West Valley City Arts is presenting "Legally Blonde" based on the classic movie starring Reese Witherspoon.
Here with all of the details of the performance is Director, Brooklyn Kohler.
Hi Brooklyn.
- Hi.
- Thanks for being here.
- Thank you for having me, super great.
- How fun to get to work in theater.
- [Brooklyn] Man, it is the best.
- Do you love it?
- I do love it.
It's a passion and I used to get to do it full-time.
Moved back to Utah, and now I get to do it part-time, but that is great for work life balance (chuckling).
- And West Valley City Arts has that great theater that you get to perform in.
- A lovely theater in the round.
So every seat is a good seat.
And we're really super blessed to have the space.
- And it's a great space in West Valley because free parking, right?
- Yeah, free parking and super accessible to the freeway.
So regardless of where you're coming from, it's a nice quick jaunt over.
- And "Legally blonde", what a fun musical.
It's just picked up popularity and lots of energy.
Tell us what you like about this musical.
- I mean, I loved the movie.
I mean, that was kind of my prime, right?
College years, so early 2000's, I was in college too, and I love Reese Witherspoon, so always enjoyed the movie.
And then when they converted that into a stage musical, it kind of became Broadway's Barbie and all about women and women empowerment.
And it musicals that are led by women and primarily featuring women are pretty rare.
So super fun to see so many women kind of come outta the wood works and fill this amazing cast.
It's been awesome.
- And you're the Director?
- Yes.
- Tell us about your approach to this show.
- Well, I was obviously inspired by the Barbie movie also, so you'll see some little hints of that, of Greta Gerwig's version of the "Barbie" movie that we all kind of came to love last year.
But I think my approach is that it's fun, it's fantastical.
She has this amazing Greek chorus that are her Delta Nu Girls, so kind of playing off of the sorority sisters.
- Oh, how fun.
Well, thank you so much for being here, letting our viewers know about it.
- Thank you.
