- I know.
It's because famous people made it.
(upbeat music) (playful music) - [Interviewer] What kind of art do you think belongs in museums?
- Little ladies in lots of pictures in museums from far away places.
- Like history art and art that people made a really long time ago.
- Art from different countries.
- So I'm really excited today that we're going to be able to go up into the galleries, and we're gonna actually look at some of the artwork that some of the children have picked out.
- Oh, there it is.
- There it is, yeah.
- Ooh, it's pretty.
(Abbie laughing) Hi.
My name is Sephira and I'm 10 years old.
(upbeat music) - Ooh, so pretty.
- Yeah.
- This makes me think like ancient Greek art from back then I guess, like a sculpture.
- It's a sculpture painting.
- It's a sculpture.
- A sculpture.
- The veiled lady.
- Do you know any fun facts about this particular work of art?
- I think an Italian guy?
- Yes, that's exactly right.
(laughing) An Italian artist, yes.
Yeah, this artwork was made over 100 years ago.
What do you like about it?
- I like that it looks like it's fabric, but it's not fabric.
- Yeah, what is it made out of?
- [Sophia] Marble.
- [Abbie] Marble?
- [Sephira] Yeah.
- [Abbie] Do you think it took a long time for the artist to make it?
- Yeah.
Probably take me like 11 years to even get the veil to look right.
I'd probably add a little bit of color instead of just having it all white and kind of tannish.
- That one, it seems like-- - A ghost.
- Sort of, yeah.
- It makes me feel kind of like scared.
- She only has her chest and her head.
- Kind of has like this part of it.
- Yeah.
- She doesn't really have her chest part.
It's creepy.
- Who do you think this lady is?
- Maybe a person getting married.
- [Abbie] Yeah?
- [Sephira] Or something, or a funeral, you never know.
- That's exactly right.
- Usually when people get married, they have the veil, and I wanna say, you might kiss the bride, they take it backwards.
They go, (imitating kiss).
(upbeat music) Who you getting married to?
(upbeat music) - It's like a statue that is like getting married to another statue.
- Arts and Music
How the greatest artworks of all time were born of an era of war, rivalry and bloodshed.
