Learn Moreabout PBS online sponsorshipMichael: We're looking at Winnie-the-Pooh and his friends.
The dolls were given to Christopher Robin Milne in 1921 on the occasion of his first birthday.
He received a teddy bear that had been purchased at Harrods department store in London, and the bear was soon christened Winnie-the-Pooh.
Winnie-the-Pooh himself actually contains a music box.
However, the box long ago stopped working, so we can only guess what tune he once played.
In short order, Pooh acquired several friends, Eeyore, Piglet, Kanga, Tigger, and Roo.
In time, Christopher's playmates would come to inspire several classic works, such as "Winnie-the-Pooh," published in 1926, written by his father A.A. Milne.
Today, they stand as a cornerstone of our renowned children's literature collection, continuing to delight, inspire both the young and the young at heart.
