“Consistent Resistance ” ahead of and we started off with “American Fahrenheit ”.

So, not a stranger to the Gainesville music scene, Anna James, Xarissa, was a member of the indie pop duo Retro Lux for a number of years, in Gaineville.

And tell us about the new project.

So this new project is my solo project.

Xarissa is my legal middle name.

And I am moving to L.A. so I just needed to have my own project.

And, you know, not have to rely on other people to move forward with my project.

Although I wish I could take these guys to L.A. because they're my favorite.

But yeah, it's definitely a lot more indie rock.

It definitely feels a lot more like me.

I have a lot more creative control over the songs.

I've written all the songs with some awesome producers.

And yeah.

I love the direction it's going and I'm excited to see where it ends up.

So, tell us a little bit about your musical inspiration.

My musical inspiration.

Oh, that's such a hard question.

I really love a songwriter named Ash.

She incorporates a lot of cool, like vintage sound into her writ And then my favorite band is The Strokes.

And though we dont sound like The Strokes at all, I think I definitely pull lyrical inspiration from them.

You seem to be very driven by this career path.

How long have you been wanting to do this?

I mean, I feel like every musici who's like genuinely pursuing it has been doing it since they were like little kids But I think I've been taking it more seriously since like the age of 19.

But I've just like always, it's just the one thing I've always wanted.

So we're going after it.

Go for it.

You'll go out there and slay I'm sure.
