(upbeat music) - Here's a chance to support young entrepreneurs and celebrate creativity.
Joining us in the studio with a sneak peek of the Kearns Oquirrh Park Fitness Center Kids' Market is Kevin Schmidt.
Thank you for being here, Kevin.
- Thanks for having me.
- And you brought some cool designs with you.
- [Kevin] Yeah.
- Some cool things that the kids have actually created?
Tell me about these.
- Yeah, so the market has, currently we have over 50 booths of kids that they've been working hard to come up with ideas and create their products.
And so I brought a few samples today of some of the products that some of the kids have made.
- And it blows my mind that these are handcrafted items created by these kids who are really interested in catching that entrepreneurial spirit.
Can you talk about what it's like to be teaching kids these lessons in creativity and also in business?
- Yeah, so one of the goals of the market is to encourage kids to come up with ideas and then to develop those ideas.
And then the goal is for the public to come and help support their ideas, right?
To purchase their products and help them realize that they can achieve those goals that they've worked on.
- Absolutely, it instills a sense of confidence in the kids as well.
Why was this something that you felt was important to bring to your community?
- Well, this isn't a new idea.
There's children entrepreneur markets throughout the state, but our area hadn't had the opportunity to have one and so we wanted to bring it to our community.
- I love that.
And do you have a favorite item that you've seen so far?
Probably hard to choose from all of them.
- It is hard to choose.
I know that there's gonna be kids that are doing baked goods and hand art.
These are really fun.
I'm just blown away by the creativity and the little fidget items that these kids are creating.
And so it's just exciting.
- Yeah, it's exciting.
They're super adorable and thank you.
I appreciate you stopping by and bringing these items for us to check out.
If you would like to stop by and support, pretty much shopping local and support kids at the same time, it's the Kids' Market happening on the lawn by the south kiosk entrance at Kearns Oquirrh Park Fitness Center, September 12th, 10:00 AM until 1:00 PM.
