Went through different phases of drawing comics and all sorts of things Skateboarding.
Skateboarding kind of led me into music because every weekend at the parks they would invite these punk bands to come out and play.
Naturally, I gravitated towards the electric guitar.
(pensive music continues) There was a prison You were a slave to it Caught in a system That you weren't made to win But, ooh You won't ever break Unshaken By the earthquake When I was nine, my parents had split at that point.
My dad was still living in New Jersey at the time, working as a correctional officer and he was killed in the line of duty.
Woo It was right after that time that I started to show an interest in music, and so, I think, one, my mom was looking for something constructive for me to be able to process all those emotions, she was also trying to get me off of the skateboard, I think, so she was all in for it.
Oh, sing a little louder So at 10 years old, I started playing guitar.
All your dreams All dreams are getting wilder All the pain And all of the sins of this world Won't rain Down on my soul Pain And all of the sins of this world Won't rain Down on my Soul (audience cheering) (brooding music) (upbeat music) They think I've gone too far They say I know what I didn't know They always raised the bar Until I fell down below And I've just been hanging on I might just sing when I'm falling down I ll finally see when I hit the ground My victory from the muddy water I can't believe it's a miracle Something in the water changes the physical I get my peace from the murky bottom Yeah I tried to keep the peace, yeah But it turned into a fire All the words I tried to explain, well Oh boy, I was I was preaching to the choir And I tried to change my perspective It only reaped more disrespectin Is there a remedy Is there even supposed to be You could make it better Only you could make it better But you don't because you won't Because you won't And I've just been hanging on Whoa I might just sing when I'm falling down I finally see when I hit the ground My victory from the muddy water I can't believe it's a miracle Something in the water changes the physical I get my peace from the murky bottom Yeah The world turned upside down And time's waiting to run out So it can start again My head is spinning round The truth keeps screaming out And out and out and out and out again Whoa Woo, woo, woo Thank you.
(audience cheering) In 2017, I decided to move to Austin I was on the search for a new band to play with and put out an ad specifically for a drummer.
I stumbled across Jake's videos, and there was this one specific thing that he played, and it was a clip from him playing at a, I think, Guitar Center Drum-off And I was like, "All right, this is the guy."
(upbeat music) A few weeks into us playing together I think I mentioned that I was born in Millville in Vineland, New Jersey He was like, "What?"
I came to find out he was from the same place.
We just ended up linking up in Austin 20 years later.
Y'all ready?
