Learn Moreabout PBS online sponsorship>>I think Ziggie's, for me, is about family.
It's about community.
It's about serving high quality food in an environment where we can connect with the people around u and the people that support us and create an environment that's welcoming and comfortable.
>>It's also us.
It's what we wanted to make of it.
It's what we wanted to do for food and how we wante to see a restaurant environment.
>>I am Christian and I am one of the co-owners of Ziggie's Pizza.
>>I am Floyd and I' the other co-owner of Ziggie's Pizza.
>>Ziggie's is a artisanal pizza restaurant.
We do thin crust pizzas, unique ingredients, unique flavor combinations that you generally won't find in traditional pizza spots.
>>Many, many years ago, I started cooking a lot for our family after just some tough times and really fell in love with it.
I went to culinary school and I started working fine dining restaurants.
>>I needed a job after high school, and the only place I was hiring was, like a fast food place.
So I got a job there.
>>We wanted to start something ourselves.
We had no idea what that was going to look like.
But when we found the locatio here in Ivanhoe with the Thirsty Topher, saw everything, saw what it could be, and we're like, okay, pizza.
How do we make this pizza us?
Both my brother and I have struggled with mental health for most of our adult life.
>>And mental health is really prevalent in our industry.
Addiction is really prevalent, which is also a mental health issue.
>>We know how dangerous it can be, how self-destructive it can be.
It's all these things that a lot of people don't think about that really can give you a dark outlook on things.
And that's what we don't want to see within our employees.
>>For us we're in the service industry, and that doesn't end at the counter.
And really when we we started, it's like, well, we want to make sure people are happy.
>>How can we help stop a lot of the negatives that people see in kitchens?
>>And so we try to raise awareness and provide help, for everyone that needs it.
>>So we've been tuition reimbursement.
We help people with housing if they need it.
We have connections in th mental health treatment world.
Whatever we can do to make their lives easier, that's what we do.
Because at the end of the day, this is a job.
>>Thankfully, it's worked out.
This community has been supremely welcoming and I think has been the largest part of how popular we've become.
I think people notice it right when when people are, when you go to a place and they're happy, genuinely happy, not fake happy, you can tell, right?
>>Yeah, but it's okay.
>>To have established regulars that come in once a week and we know what they're going to get, and they know us by name is just such a rewarding experience for us as business owner and as people who love to cook.
That is the highest compliment we can get.
We never got to experience Orlando how it is now growing up, but we can help create that environment for other people and we're all part of a community together.
We work together.
We just help grow the area an we refer people to each other.
>>And it's just everyone wants to help everyone else.
>>Because when one of us is successful, we're all going to be successful.
>>We still want to make sur that people want to come back.
People want to come here.
People want to work for us.
The fact that we've been able to create the culture and the atmosphere, the style of food that we want to create, has been a very unique and rewarding experience.
>>We've found how to be reasonably happy while doing this and that for us is rewarding.
