PBS is a consistent leader in television’s most prestigious competitions. Some of the major awards and nominations PBS received in the 2011-2012 awards year include: 

12 Daytime Emmy Award (39th Annual), including eight for SESAME STREET, two for THE ELECTRIC COMPANY, one for WORDGIRL and one for DESIGN SQUAD, in the New Approaches – Daytime Children’s  category – a sign of PBS’s continuing drive towards innovation.

14 Primetime Emmy Awards (63nd Annual), including six for MASTERPIECE CLASSIC “Downton Abbey,” three for AMERICAN EXPERIENCE "Freedom Riders" and two each for AMERICAN MASTERS and GREAT PERFORMANCES. In total, PBS received 43 nominations -- more than twice the nominations of A&E, Bravo, Discovery and History combined.

6 News & Documentary Emmy Awards (32nd Annual), including four awards for POV programs, and one each for FRONTLINE and INDEPENDENT LENS. PBS received a total of 32 nominations in 2011.

7 George Foster Peabody Awards (71st Annual), more than any other organization, for AMERICAN EXPERIENCE, POV "My Perestroika," POV "StoryCorps 9/11," INDEPENDENT LENS "Bhutto," AMERICAN MASTERS "Charles and Ray Eames - The Architect and the Painter," AUSTIN CITY LIMITS and NOVA "Surviving the Tsunami."

1 Golden Globe Award (69th Annual) for MASTERPIECE CLASSIC "Downton Abbey." MASTERPIECE programs received a total of five nominations.

3 Academy Award nominations (84th Annual) for INDEPENDENT LENS “Hell and Back Again,” POV "If A Tree Falls: A Story of the Earth Liberation Front" and POV "The Barber Of Birmingham: Foot Soldier of the Civil Rights Movement."

3 Alfred I. duPont-Columbia University Awards (2012) for INDEPENDENT LENS "Hell and Back Again," NOVA "Japan's Killer Quake" and Detroit Public TV's "Beyond the Light Switch."

1 Television Critics Association Award (2012) for MASTERPIECE CLASSIC "Downton Abbey 2."

1 NAACP Image Award nomination (43rd Annual) for INDEPENDENT LENS "Being Elmo: A Puppeteer's Journey."

3 IDA Documentary Awards (2011) for POV and POV's "Nostalgia for the Light" and "Better This World." PBS programs received a total of nine nominations.

5 Writers Guild of America Awards (2012), including one for POV and four for FRONTLINE.

1 Screen Actors Guild Awards nomination (18th Annual) for Maggie Smith in MASTERPIECE CLASSIC "Downton Abbey."

2 Arqiva British Academy Television Awards from BAFTA (2012) for Steven Moffat and Andrew Scott for MASTERPIECE MYSTERY! "Sherlock."

3 Producers Guild Awards (23rd Annual) for MASTERPIECE CLASSIC "Downton Abbey," AMERICAN MASTERS and SESAME STREET.

1 American Society of Cinematographers Award (26th Annual) for MASTERPIECE CONTEMPORARY "Page Eight."

4 Sundance Film Festival Awards (2012) for INDEPENDENT LENS documentaries, including the Grand Jury Prize: Documentary for "The House I Live In."

6 Jackson Hole Wildlife Film Festival Awards (2011) for NATURE, including the top prize --- the Grand Teton Award -- for "Broken Tail: A Tiger's Last Journey."

13 International Wildlife Film Festival Awards (35th Annual), including the top honor, Best of Festival, for NATURE "Broken Tail: A Tiger's Last Journey."

2 Film Independent Spirit Awards (2012) for FRONTLINE "The Interrupters" and POV "Where Soldiers Come From."

6 Gracie Awards (2012) for the PBS system, including awards for WORDGIRL and WOMEN, WAR & PEACE.

1 Imagen Award (2011) for INDEPENDENT LENS "The Longoria Affair."

8 Parents’ Choice Awards for Television (2012), including gold awards for THE ELECTRIC COMPANY, SID THE SCIENCE KID and SESAME STREET.

10 Parents’ Choice Awards for Small Screen (Spring 2012), including silver awards for the CYBERCHASE, DINOSAUR TRAIN, SID THE SCIENCE KID and SESAME STREET websites.

3 Webby Awards (16th Annual), including two for SESAME STREET and one for RELIGION & ETHICS NEWSWEEKLY. In total, PBS producers received nine nominations; an additional 10 honorees from PBS and PBS producers were also selected.

5 Kidscreen Awards (2012), including PBS KIDS being named Channel of the Year and SESAME STREET winning the award for Best Non-Animated or Mixed Series, Preschool.
