PBS Congratulates WUCF TV on Its July 1 Debut in Central Florida

ARLINGTON, VA - June 30, 2011 - Beginning Friday, July 1, 2011, WUCF TV is the new Central Florida home for the full PBS schedule. The channel is made possible through a partnership of the University of Central Florida and Brevard Community College. PBS congratulates WUCF TV on their official on-air launch.

“These organizations have done an outstanding job coming together to ensure that everyone in central Florida can continue enjoying their favorite PBS content, on television and online,” said PBS President and CEO Paula Kerger. “WUCF will offer a full range of PBS content as well as one-of-a-kind local programming that allows everyone to discover more, to experience more and to be more. I am confident that this new collaboration will provide even greater service to the people of Central Florida.”

WUCF TV will broadcast PBS’ Emmy-award winning news and public affairs, history, drama and performing arts programming, including the PBS NEWSHOUR, MASTERPIECE and NOVA, as well as specials such as A CAPITOL FOURTH, the live PBS broadcast of America's favorite Independence Day tradition, airing this Monday, July 4, at 8:00 pm ET. The channel also will feature first-class local content about the Central Florida community.

WUCF TV also will broadcast seven hours of PBS KIDS programming each weekday. PBS KIDS is the nation’s most trusted educational media brand and has been proven to help children succeed in the classroom and in life. The schedule will include such curriculum-based series as SESAME STREET, CURIOUS GEORGE, DINOSAUR TRAIN and many others.

As of July 1, WUCF TV can be seen over the air on digital channel 68.1. In addition, Bright House Networks, the region's largest cable provider, will carry WUCF TV on digital cable channel 1 in standard definition and channel 1001 in high definition.
