KERRI HANLON NAMED PBS COMMUNICATIONS PROFESSIONAL OF THE YEAR

WHYY’s Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer honored
during the 2007 PBS Showcase in Dallas, TX

DALLAS, TX, May 21, 2007 – Paula Kerger, PBS President and CEO, announced that Kerri Hanlon, Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer at WHYY in Philadelphia, PA, is the winner of the 2006 Communications Professional of the Year Award. Ms. Hanlon received the honor during PBS Showcase, an annual public television meeting focusing on programming and communications. The award is given each year to a PBS station professional who has achieved strategic, results-driven communication. Ms. Hanlon’s work resulted in higher ratings, greater membership and increased revenue, all of which provided WHYY with additional resources to carry out its public service mission.

“Through her efforts at WHYY, Kerri has worked tirelessly to ensure public television is a visible and viable resource to Philadelphians,” said Ms. Kerger. “Her work is an example of how all communications professionals can be creative, persistent and strategic as they promote the powerful, positive messages in public broadcasting.”

“Kerri Hanlon has combined innovative branding and public relations functions with our membership systems,” said William Marrazzo, WHYY President and CEO. “Soon after Kerri implemented this change, we began to see sustainable growth in our net membership revenues and, more importantly, renewal rates.”

Under Ms. Hanlon’s leadership, WHYY engaged in a nine-month promotion and membership campaign leading up to the taping of ANTIQUES ROADSHOW in Philadelphia. Her efforts, which included on-air, direct mail, media pitches and community events, resulted in attendance of 6,000 people at the taping – generating the highest number of ticket applications in the show’s history, dozens of satisfied high-level donors who were able to meet ROADSHOW hosts and appraisers and the unprecedented rating of 5.4, 170 percent above average, for the premiere episode.

Ms. Hanlon has also provided the strategic vision for numerous other efforts throughout the year. She provided a fresh look for station identification and promotion spots on WHYY, expanded local media exposure, and spearheaded a membership effort that led to an 8 percent net revenue gain in the first half of FY07.

The 2007 PBS Showcase was held May 18-21 at the Hyatt Regency in Dallas, Texas. The conference, with more than 800 participants, featured nationally recognized speakers, programming and promotion information, professional development opportunities on a wide range of subjects, and networking opportunities. Highlights from this year’s Showcase included programming for Fall 2007, plus the latest techniques in promotion, education and interactive platforms.
