Gilbert and Sullivan’s blockbuster is loved for its dynamite songs, gleefully entertaining story and saucy satire. The Guthrie Theater’s modern twist infuses the memorable melodies with fresh musical arrangements from big band swing to classic pop and new show-stopping choreography. Go behind the scenes with costuming, musical staging, set building and learn more about the Guthrie Theater. You can also watch the full performance here.

The Guthrie Theater opened on May 7, 1963 with a production of Hamlet directed by theatrical director Sir Tyrone Guthrie, the theater's founder. The idea of the theater began in 1959 when Guthrie and two colleagues set out to create a theater with a resident acting company that would perform the classics in rotating repertory with the highest professional standards.
