David Mearns - Live on the web
|
Expedition leader, David Mearns, will be talking live on the web this evening at Channel4.com.
David is the impetus behind the Channel4/ITN project to find and film the wreck of World Ward 2 Battlecruiser The Hood. The expedition, leaving Cork this weekend, will attempt to locate the remains of the ship - some 3000 metres down, off the coast of Greenland.
As yet, nobody has found the wreck and her exact location remains a mystery.
David is a world expert in exploring the deep sea ocean. He was responsible for finding and filming the Derbyshire in 1994. This bulk carrier went down in suspicious circumstances and David's findings at the site paved the way for a full government inquiry.
His past successes also include the Lucona - a ship deliberately sunk for insurance fraud and now the subject of a movie - and the John Barry - a liberty ship sunk by U-boats during the war. The latter was on its way to Saudi Arabia when it went down and contained hundreds of silver riyals.
