Red Book Guide to Program Packaging and Delivery for PBS

Welcome to the PBS Red Book.

This manual is for use in the preparation of programs that have been accepted for broadcast by the PBS National Program Service and Plus Service.  This handbook does not necessarily cover all of the requirements related to PBS Fundraising Programming. 

Producers who have submitted programs to PBS but have not yet received final approval should not initiate the packaging and delivery process.

Policies and guidelines are subject to change.  Producers will be held to the Red Book standards in place at the time of program acceptance.

NOTE: In addition to meeting the Red Book Requirements, PBS programs must adhere to the Editorial Standards and Policies.

In addition, all programs must meet the technical requirements set forth in PBS's Technical Operating Specifications (TOS) Manual. The  Icon TOS Submission (251.3 KB)  (updated May 2012) is intended for producers, editors and engineers who are submitting programs for PBS broadcast. The Satellite Transmission (136.0 KB) and Distribution From PBS (65.3 KB) documents may also be referenced as applicable.
