NEEDCOM:

Do you ever feel that people passing by are scared of you?

ROBERT S:

Well they are, and this is why: some guys out here take a cup and get up in a person's face and say, give me this and give me that. That's intimidating a person.

How can a person ...? I'm legally blind. I can't walk. What can I do to a person? What can I do to anyone? But then I've had some people come up, and they're scared of me.

NEEDCOM:

Some people are really scared of you?

ROBERT S:

Some people that're not intelligent. I mean people got to have stupid written on their head to look at me and ... I mean how can a person be ... What's dangerous about me?

NEEDCOM:

Well you could run over my toes ... [We laugh.]

ROBERT S:

But Cathy, some people really worry about that.

NEEDCOM:

What kind of people tend to ignore you?

LANETTE:

Ignorant people! Ignorant people that ... they grew up saying, "Nobody goes down, everybody in general must, you know, stay on top." But it's not like that all the time. These type of people that're like that—ignorant and naive—they feel that I should be out there working like they should. But why should they work, and we sit on our asses and beg them? I don't think it's right.

NEEDCOM:

What do security guards say to you to get you to move on?

DONALD:

No, some of them are pretty all right. Nice, you know—you give them respect, they give you respect. Some are real ... I'm trying to find the word ... fools. Crazy people. Some of them don't understand the point of surviving. You know, 'cause that's what it's all about—trying to survive. Without going to jail. 'Cause this is against the law to do this.
