There was a flurry of legal activity in the days leading up to the Feb. 17, 2004, execution. It included: The findings of arson expert Gerald Hurst; the state’s introduction of the stunning affidavit of Todd’s brother-in law claiming that according to Stacy, Todd’s ex-wife, he had confessed to her in a final meeting at the prison; and the ultimate denial of a stay of execution by the state of Texas and the U.S. Supreme Court.
