Arlington, VA; January 13, 2026 — PBS was recognized among the nominees for the 57th NAACP Image Awards, celebrating Black creativity and excellence across film, television, music, and literature.
Dr. Henry Louis Gates, Jr. received three nominations, with FINDING YOUR ROOTS WITH HENRY LOUIS GATES, JR. once again honored for Outstanding News/Information (Series or Special), building on previous recognitions in 2015 and 2023. This year also marks a significant milestone: Dr. Gates earns his first-ever nomination as host of the series.
PBS KIDS’ WEATHER HUNTERS also earned a nomination for Outstanding Animated Series. Created by and starring award-winning weatherman and host, Al Roker, and featuring a star-studded voice cast, the series supports kids’ learning about Earth science and meteorology through adventure and comedy.
KING OF THEM ALL: THE STORY OF KING RECORDS earned filmmaker Yemi Oyediran a nomination for Outstanding Directing in a Documentary. The project was made through PBS’s Open Call for Emerging Filmmakers initiative, which supports early- and mid-career filmmakers from underrepresented communities to further diversify public media.

The 57th NAACP Image Awards will take place on Saturday, February 28, 2026, at 8:00 PM ET at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium, airing on BET and simulcast on CBS.
