PBS Foundation Receives $1 Million Grant From Robert David Lion Gardiner Foundation

Funds will support the production of history docuseries AMERICAN EXPERIENCE 

 

ARLINGTON, VA; July 17, 2024  The PBS Foundation has received a $1 million grant from Robert David Lion Gardiner Foundation to support PBS’s acclaimed history docuseries AMERICAN EXPERIENCE

The grant furthers AMERICAN EXPERIENCE’s mission of bringing pivotal moments and notable figures in American history to life through films that cover a range of topics, from social movements and technological innovation to popular culture and the nation’s wars.

As America’s home for documentary storytelling, PBS is committed to shining a light on untold stories and examining our shared past,” said PBS President and CEO Paula Kerger. “We could not be more grateful to Robert David Lion Gardiner Foundation for its generous support of this important work and for bringing viewers across the country more of the award-winning storytelling that has made AMERICANEXPERIENCE America’s most-watched history series.”

In addition to broadcast and streaming, AMERICAN EXPERIENCE is available for classroom use through PBS LearningMedia, a free online resource offering tens of thousands of contextualized, standards-aligned lesson plans, biographies, videos, and educational activities. 

Produced by PBS’s Boston-based member station, GBH, AMERICAN EXPERIENCE has earned every major broadcast award over the past 35 years, including 30 Emmy Awards, five duPont-Columbia Awards, and 19 George Foster Peabody Awards.  

Robert David Lion Gardiner Foundation has invested $3 million in the series since 2017 through grants to the PBS Foundation, PBS’s national fundraising arm.
