Rosalind (Natalie Quarry) confirmation is carried out by the Bishop at St. Oswald’s church attended by the Nonnatus team. After the service, Cyril (Zephryn Taitte) gives her his own personal Bible from British Guyana.
A few days later Rosalind visits Vera Kovacs (Margareta Szaso) who has multiple sclerosis. Rosalind is deeply concerned when she discovers Vera’s young cousin eating leftovers from the kitchen bin.
Meanwhile, Joyce’s (Renee Bailey) jumps at the chance to go on secondment to St. Cuthbert’s working under Sister Marcus (Doreen Blackstock). She is tasked with supervising the ante-natal clinic, which is under revolt as fed-up pregnant women impatiently wait to test their urine. Joyce quickly puts things in order and meets a single mother who has a placenta praevia. She is distressed about her family situation, worried about bringing up her child alone and concerned that she might need a caesarean section.
Elsewhere, the Turner children watch Blue Peter, engrossed in the team burying a time capsule, which will be opened in the year 2000. They want to make their own. Reggie (Daniel Laurie) is also watching the program and wants to do the same. He empties Violet’s (Annabelle Apsion) button tin so he can use it as his time capsule box.
Sister Catherine (Molly Vevers) watches Reggie hard at work digging a hole in the allotment for his time capsule and decides to arrange one for Nonnatus House. At clinic she encourages mums to donate personal items to the time capsule, reminding them of the Order’s work. The Cubs and other community groups also prepare to make their own and the time capsules are buried in various locations across Poplar. Nurse Crane (Linda Bassett) is on hand with her camera to take photos of the moment in time.
